Just because there is a basis behind a witch hunt doesn't mean that it's not a witch hunt.
The basis is that there is sexual abuse going on that is being covered up. That sparked a movement by law enforcement to prosecute religious leaders, and to encourage people to come out against them. Since they have a campaign against these people, they will accept testimony that would normally be laughed out of court, and will blame the lack of evidence on the coverup. This doesn't mean that there is no abuse going on, it just means that innocent people are being targeted due to this abuse and the movement to prosecute it. The government likes looking like they are doing something. Arrest records look good for them, nobody looks to see if the people are actually guilty. Millions of people are incarcerated today, casualties of politician's popularity ratings.
