This question has come up several times on myfico.com's forums, and that is what they say...
Good to know!

Don't know about average age of accounts but oldest accounts definitively count closed accounts. It's clearly on my report.

Yes, that we know.
Average age/oldest account is what I've seen conflicting reports here on DDF about.

Just confirmed it includes closed cards for the average age as well as for oldest card. I simply averaged my own accounts my self including all of my closed cards and it came out the same as it states on my report of my oldest account and of my average age.

I beg to differ. Credit history composes at least 15% of your credit score. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, the length of credit history is something ALL issuers look at. I don't care how high your credit score is, if a person lacks a significant credit history he will, all things being equal, have a much more difficult time getting approved for credit.

Agreed. My response was to mikel1's post, and my point was regarding an 'account closed by credit issuer' that it's not that bad. I've had the same experience as others in this thread where Chase closed down all my accounts, and I haven't seen that hurt my credit much, if at all. These were not my oldest accounts though.

Are we sure that average age of accounts and oldest accounts still count after they're closed as long as they're on the report?
Yes, this one you can take to the bank.  :)

Chase is known to close all accounts in a heartbeat without notice. You then receive a notice about a week later. Many have had their checking account closed and then all related CC accounts are also closed.

Once they closed my credit card (only card with chase and my 1st ever CC) probably because I had no transactions on it for 3-4 months.

I logged into my chase account online and was able to see my accounts. However, instead of seeing all the $ figures all it said on every line was 'not available'. There were no messages or emails from them about anything.

Is this just the usual Saturday night maintenance done by most banks/cc's or is it something to be nervous about?

I do know that Bank of America, Capital One and Discover do maintenance this time of week but usually don't even let you log in. Anyone have an idea?

Thanks!

Got a little nervous about that too. Doesn't say anything about the maintenance on the iphone app so if you can't see the maintenance is tonight from 11 p.m. til 3 a.m. and tom from midnight until 6:30 a.m.

+1. Its unbelievable

FYI after calling up Chase lending services a couple of times, I got them to re-review my credit report and now my cards have been reactivated. This whole thing was beyond ridiculous, very time consuming, and quite aggravating. I never knew that Chase routinely checks credit reports using a hard pull for no reason, and then closes cards/reduces credit lines when they "see fit"
here's the weird thing: When i checked my online account, it showed all my cards reactivated INCLUDING the united card that I voluntarily closed down a few weeks ago  >:(

This mishigas just solidifies the negative feelings i have towards Chase

I know this is 5 years later, but who exactly did you contact?  I'm going through the same thing without notice.  They shut down wife's and my accounts last week.  I was able to transfer out my points, but I'm still working on the ones from last statement.  My main goal is to get it reinstated like yours.  How did you do it?  What did you say/do to have them reinstate???  Please advise.

There is a class action settlement for people who had their accounts closed without being able to redeem points.
