Do You Park In Front Of Illegal Driveways?

In Borough Park a lot of people make themselves curb cuts in front of their house if there is a little place for a car to be parked in front of their house but in fact they are not legal. The City requires a couple of things for a driveway to become LEGAL to allow to make a curb cut etc. With the crazy parking situation here is it ethical to park in front of these so called driveways?

When these people come out and see you parked there they starts screaming like you just stole a thousand dollars from them...

In fact there is place for a car to park in there. It is just not legal..

How can you tell if it is legal or not?

Generally I don't like confrontation or trouble. I don't block driveways and always ensure that I'm a good distance from a hydrant. If parking is really that difficult at night for you, consider renting a spot.

You can look it up on NYC.Gov. Most of the illegal driveways already have violations but it seems that as long the person pays the violation they will not make him fix the curb...

It will. All it can be used against them is to serve them a violation which they have to pay. They are fine with it....

Tough luck.

Not that this matters, but in my opinion a homeowner should have the right to park on his property. Many homes in Brooklyn were built between 1900-1940, long before cars were a staple of every household. Developers did not foresee the mess this would create down the line.
