Now, how do I start building up Matmid points before flying? Any specific cards? I currently have SPG, Amex gold, and Chase Visa British Air. I use SPG the most.

That's a BIG difference between Israeli MR points and USA MR points!

The Israeli version is significantly worse. Much harder to earn MR, its not a point per dollar/shekel.

I know SPG points are far more valuable as MR points transfer to SPG 3:1. Would it make more sense to keep collecting SPG and trade them at a higher rate for MR points?

Significantly easier to accrue MR. That 3x1 ratio is a terrible value.
