They charged my card today total $54 (for 4 phones) and they will bill you the first month that you get back half (if you cancel 15 days in) for the cheapest plan $30 + $20 per line + tax (split that number in half)

But you still owe Verizon about $150 on each phone, which you'll have to pay monthly. The LG rebate will cover that but it's not like you walked out owning 4 phones for $54.

Plenty of MVNO's are doing giveaways for porting your number to them. You can create and port as many ring.to numbers as you want.

Supports SOME GSM channels. You have to do your research. For example T Mobile uses 2, 4, and 14. The Verizon G4 only has 2 and 4. In most places 14 is only a backup so for the most part you'll be fine (unless in your area they use 14).

Things that can go wrong: the lg rebate and you know the way any rebate is a ymmv especially with so many discounts
trade in - if your rep doesnt apply the 300 to the cost of the phone immediatley and you only get it as an account credit  will they allow to apply the credit at time of cancellation despite the fact that you gonna cancel after a month ?
Best case get the verizon rep in store to apply the gift card immediately and even better if you were planning to switch to verizon as the phone only has some lte bands but not all for att and t mobile.
