If you do it online you will get the $300 trade in value as Verizon credit, not as a down payment on the phone. And you will need to wait and see if they accept your trade in. In store it's all done on the spot

Eta: if you have a phone that is in their system, you Amy as well do one now.

Otherwise they will send you an message for each phone and you will have 15 days to trade in. (You can go to the store)

Another thing: you can only buyout the contract online with a full payment, the $300 giftcard will not cover it, so the site will not let you use it.

What you may be able to do: start a buyout of the contract ($452) with a credit card and reverse the charge or have it denied, in which case the verizon website says that the full price if the phone will be due on your next bill, which can then be paid by a giftcard/credit.

I have not tried this, so ymmv and I take no responsibility if it doesn't work.
