Which Hilton Hhonors card to get? Big Hilton Purchase coming!
« on: October 27, 2015, 02:37:11 PM »
I am making my son's BMitzvah in a hilton hotel in January. I am booking 25-30 rooms and a ball room over 2 days. The hotel said i can get Hhonors points for all of it so naturally i am enrolling in Hhonors (promotion anywhere)?  In addition, i want to get the most bang for my buck and figure it is best to get one of the Hilton credit cards. Prefer not to pay an annual fee, but willing to sign up for a CC that has an annual fee if the fee is waived the first year and i can downgrade the card after a year to then avoid the annual fee. I am also not married to only getting a Hhonors credit card if another card will give me a better bang for my buck.

I see the Hilton Honors Reserve Card Visa, Surpass card from Amex, or their two basic cards.

Which is the best card to get?
Which card has the best promotion out now?
Any card better than a hilton branded card for this purpose?

I currently hold an SPG Amex  and United Explorer MC. These are my two primary cards since i usually use both starwwod hotels and fly united.

Any help, suggestions, information would be great.  Thanks All

I could either sell them or use them for hotel rooms later on. I don't really know yet. I just want to get the best benefit i can whether in points or other benefit. Thanks for asking and following up.

The Surpass at 12ppd at Hilton properties will likely be your best bet. Selling or using for Hilton nights, 12ppd is great.

Are there any good promos out there for these cards, the Amex Surpass card other than the 60K points bonus for $3K spent in the first 3 months? Is the annual fee waived the first year, so i can downgrade the 2nd year to avoid the fee?

You can always apply for this and throw in a few other Amex cards.

Why isn't Chase SP the best option? Depending on the number wouldn't it be worth more?

You would have to value Hilton at a 6:1 ratio to sapphire to make it worth it. They aren't worth too much, but they aren't that bad.

If you want Hilton points, definitely the Amex Surpass.

If you don't want Hilton points, either the Citi Prestige or TY Premier for 3x TY points.

The 12xHH will be worth more.

Depending on how the points are used and whether or not he wants Hilton points.

The Amex HH Surpass is the obvious choice for Hilton points though.

12HH are worth more than anything else. That's about 6 cents per mile.

I'd say more like 5 cents.

I dont need hilton points. I generally stay in starwood hotels have over 90K in starwood points and use the spg amex as my primary card (or the United explorer MC when amex is not taken). If HHoners surpass Amex gives me the most bang for my buck then i would get that. Truth is I would like to find a card i can use to accumulate points for a cruise (norwegian). The cruise line cards including norwegian have very bad rewards so i never got one. I would ultimately prefer a general travel rewards card that i can use for cruises. Any suggestions? Chase Saffire or others?  Any good sign up bonuses out there?

Arrival+ from Barclays might just be the way to go then.
