I'd say more like 5 cents.
Even so, that would seem like the best bet. Can sell miles and buy whatever he may need.

When all boils down, if you are getting 12 ppd, you can figure getting about 5 cents out of that. With that five cents, you can sell and pocket the money, or sell, buy whatever miles you may need (most expensive is about 2 cpm) and pocket the rest.

To me it seems clear what you should get.

There is no official way to sell Hilton points. People here are referring to brokers who buy them. Or to use them for other people's stay and have them pay you cash.

Get a bunch of cards and use this to hit the spending threshold. 30 Hilton rooms should take you pretty far. (For example, the CSP will get you 54,000 points after $4k. At 1.5 cpp (a low valuation), that's $810, over 20% back. The equivalent spending on the Hilton Surpass will get 5%-6%. Even asumming a  60,000 sign up bonus, thats 108000, which is between $450 and $540, an inferior rate.) You also may be better off crediting the Hilton points from the stay to an airline instead.

I like the idea of getting the CSP card since i use starwood mostly and prefer a general travel card and want to use it for cruises, although when you did your calculation, did you take into consideration that Hilton Surpass gives you 12X points for purchases made at a hilton property? I will be spending about $10,000 at Hilton. Taking this into consideration, which would be better? CSP or Hilton Surpass Amex?

Should be 56,000 UR @ ~1.5 = $840 or 180,000 HH @ ~.5 = $900

As an aside, sign up for a HH account and make sure it is attached to all the rooms. You should be earning points from that regardless of how you pay.

You can also add any promotions that may be going on. You never know what will work and/or stack.

That's a low estimate of UR point value and a high estimate of HH value IMO.

UR points would be more flexible.

Thanks Marco.  I already put in my contract with Hilton my HHonors No. to be listed on every room. I didnt sign up for HHonors yet since i am looking to see if there is any sign up bonus. Any out there? Once signed up, I will sign up for every promo available.

I am leaning towards the CSP card over the Hilton Surpass since I think i will get more use out of that card for general travel purposes. I want free cruises!!! I also have the SPG Amex as my primary card with over 100K points and try to exclusively stay at starwood properties (so the Hilton Surpass becomes even less needed). Also, I will get some points being an HHonors member. The only other consideration would be to now upgrade my Chase United Explorer to the Chase United Club card (fee waived first year) and charge everything to that card for the extra miles (I try to go United exclusively too). I can always downgrade to the explorer once the year is up to avoid the annual fee of $200+.

What do you all think?

If you're not going with Surpass and want United miles, go with CSP which gives you 2x and transfer to UA

Wow! The CSP then, at 2x is even better than the United Club Card ($395 fee). Since the United Club Card only gives you 1.5x ppd. I guess CSP is the better way to go.

Get the CSP for the signup bonus, which is MUCH more valuable than the Hilton surpass bonus(>$675 compared to <$300). If you're spending 10k then get an ink plus also, which will net you another 60k UR. If you spend 5k on that and 5k on the csp, you'd be walking away with 120k UR, worth at least $1800. That's twice what you'd be getting with the Hilton surpass, which marco valuated at $900. BTW did you look into crediting the hotel stay to an airline instead? I think you get one ppd spent with united, which is worth much more than Hilton points. I don't know anything about this, any expert advice?

I don't get your math. It should be 65,000 UR if he spends all 10k on the csp, which is over $1000. Am i missing something?
