FT's StarwoodLurker says they're probably coming today! Get ready to make reservations for future stays at lower rates!

Hotels will move up or down in category depending on some convoluted formula of 2010 hotel ADR (average daily rate), 2010 hotel RevPAR (revenue per available room), 2011 predicted ADR and RevPAR, and MLCSP (monkeys lottery category selection process)

luckily i already booked the westin excelisior which went from 5 to 6 and hotel gritti which went from 6 to 7 for my trip this summer

W Retreat Koh Samui from 6 to 7...are they insane?
Hotel Gritti Palace, Venice from 6 to 7...are they insane?
Sheraton Gateway Hotel Los Angeles from 3 to 2...nice!
Le Méridien Dead Sea from 3 to 1...wow! Let's see the games they play now!
W San Diego from 5 to 4...nice!
Luxury Collection/US Grant (S. Diego) from 5 to 4...nice!
Luxury Collection/SLS Beverly Hills from 6 to 5...nice!
Westin Harbour Castle (Toronto) from 3 to 4...darn!
Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort from 5 to 6...there goes the best SPG Maui option

Can anyone give me ANY logical explanation how they can make the Le meridian Dead sea a "1"? Even if they soon may leave spg, who approved a 1??

if i decide to lock in a future reservation with the old *wood rate, then add nights down the line... will it cost me the old rate?

So is that the best you can come up with?

Even when Starwood lost 4 properties over there a couple of years ago, it still didn't stop them from raising Tiberias to a 3 and Jerusalem to a 4, a few months prior to that.

fattal will prob find a way to limit award availability once the meridian dead sea falls to a cat 1. might it be possible to book rooms at the old higher rate and call for an adjustment when the rate goes down?

If it's not MLCSP then it's probably due to all the games they play with room inventory.

Sheraton JFK is going up one. Thats impressive. I stayed there once and found it to be pretty bad...
