From the research I've done so far, there are truly kosher phones and then there are those who use basic blocks.

Keep in mind, that in the USA the phone number belongs to the consumer (as opposed to the kosher phones in IL) and they can always open the internet/sms features as they wish.
They also have the option of taking the number to another carrier.
In Israel the phones are locked & strictly controlled by the company, so there's no fooling around.

@Shmendy
Point being?
a)If the company doesn't offer it then they can't open it to anything.
b) If a  yeshiva only allows kosher phones then you can't (officially) have  a different phone.
c)The point is not like in Israel to have a separate prefix.

The point of kosher phones is that the (sub) network does not support web, period. No unblocking etc possible.

Its impossible to block through the network.  The "real" kosher phones have no browser installed on them (which technically reversible also). The best idea is not give them account access and block through the carrier, then it doesnt really matter which phone you have (unless it s the camera)

The issue is interenet, not camera not sms not bluetooth.
One of the problems with account access is that you can try to get in to the account by smooth talking.

New laws everyday here. cell phone numbers in Israel can be moved from one carrier to another. The law was changed months ago.

In Israel, due to the fact that chareidim can't work, ppl are constantly making up chumras as a get rich quick scheme. Basically the point was to make some loser who pretends to be a daas torah a lot of money

That's the impression I got. Like I said, I did some Googling around and found it was pretty much a scam. Always someone coming up with some scheme to lift money out of other people's pockets. As my grandfather would say, "look out for ganevs distracting you with the Torah with the other hand in your pocket."

I'm just going to tell my cousin to put blocks on his phone if he is so worried about being kosher when it comes to telecommunications.

ganev phones are exactly what they are.

some people live on another planet, and believe that by doing this, people won't go on the internet.

kosher cell phone numbers are like a 'family share' plan and usually it's very cheap to call anyone else that also has kosher phone.
kosher phone numbers are unique and although they can be from most companies so can start w/ 052 054 058 etc, it's the next 2 digits after the 050 that will tell you if it's kosher or not.
kosher numbers do not allow texting or internet and the phones dont have a camera (although you can move the sim into another phone that has a cam, you still cant sms)
you can get a kosher number sim from www.golantelecom.co.il for 10ils a month
it is not uncommon to see a sign on a bulletin board or advertisement that has a not kosher number and next to it someone stamped on it a stamp that says "notice that this number is not a kosherphone"
i've heard that you can port your kosher number to golan and they will let u have internet/sms.
some schools do pressure the parent body to have kosher numbers claiming it'd be bad chinuch if a kids knows that everyone in the class has kosher phones but my father etc. also some newspapers wont accept ads that have a nonkosher cell number.
