My First AMEX Platinum Billing Cycle Ended after 14 Days!!!!
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:23:53 PM »
I applied for the AMEX Platinum Card assuming that I would have at least a month before the annual fee hit, and then 30 days from then to decide whether or not I want to cancel the card.

I got approved for the card on Feb. 8th (got card on 10th I believe) but now my first bill just printed on Feb. 21st!!! On the bill it says "Days in Billing Period: 14" and it says I have until March 8th to pay the bill in full!!  This seems absolutely ridiculous to me, and I tried calling AMEX Platinum CS and they refused to help me at all.  I tried explaining to them that I assumed I would have at least a full month to "test-drive" the benefits to see if it's worthwhile paying the $450 and they were not helpful or understanding at all.  I understand that the fee is billed when first cycle closes, I just want them to give me at least a full 30 days on  that first cycle (not 14), is that too much to ask?

Anyone else have such an issue with their AMEX Platinum card??

Any suggestions for how to deal with it would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You can pay the $450 and they'll refund it if you cancel within 60 days of getting billed for it.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Is this standard for the first billing cycle to only last 14 days though?

Dan,
Do u understand the svara for that? Shouldnt it be as close to 30 days as possible (barring the exact 30th day being a non-business day).  I have seen cycles that last like 28 days maybe even 25, but 14 sounds ridiculously short.

i had a platinum card billing cycle close on the first day, with the 450 fee.  You just have to pay it if you want to play the game...

Originally depending on your name is when the bills were sent out, to distribute the workload. They may still have a similar system.

Hss,
I understand that you look up to dan and use him as a role model (as do many of us on this site) but, there is no need to say dan before every comment or question you have to him.
