Bris Catering Cost?
« on: February 22, 2011, 04:34:40 PM »
Hey follow ddf members,
I am making a bris in Monsey and am curious to know if I am getting ripped off,
Currently the best quote that I got was for $13 a head. This includes white fish, lox, bagels, eggs, potatoes, etc...
I don't know the market but somthing is telling me that this expensive.
What are your thoughts?

Doesn't sound expensive to me, but I have nothing to base that on.

Assuming you have another few caterers to use, why not call around and see what the other guys are charging.

It's all relative to where you live and what you're getting. In Lakewood you can get for $8 per person for a really basic bris, and 9.50 a nicer one.  If they're giving hot dishes that will raise the price.   Call around and see what the price range is and then decide how much you want to spend.

I'm assuming eggs and potatoes are hot dishes, no?

Aha, in that case it does sound a little high...I was figuring on those being hot dishes.

I priced all the caterers out and they are pretty much all the same.
Although the price does seem expensive to me, if that is the going rate then so be it.

Just to update: the $13 does not include hot food ( I thought it did). Hot food cost a additional 1$ and consists of eggs and potatoes.

The price includes everything from table cloths to coffee,  the only things the price does not include is the hall and waiters (and the mohel) which is costing me an additional $250 for the hall and $85 per waiter.

Anyone have suggestions regarding cost/quality for bris caterers in the passaic area (or from brooklyn, etc, that would come to Passaic)?

In general, how much does a bris cost? assuming standard fare of bagels, cream cheese, tuna fish, orange juice, coffee...anything else that's expected that I'm missing?
