Totally within walking distance (weather permitting). Less than 20 minutes and it's a nice walk. You could walk along the river a bit and you also walk right thru one of the main squares (forgot which).

But, IMO, chabad's meals were a major letdown. Very basic and not enough.

Day and night compared to Venice.

Is this a possible day trip from Milan? If I have two full days in Milan is it worth trying to get there?

I wasn't in Milan, but I think of it as a drab city.
Florence has color and ART!  It looks like it's a 2 1/2 hour train ride. Each way. Worth it. There are lines to get into the museums during peak season.  But there's Michelangelo's David, and ......   I can't think of any more right now.  But even if  you're not an 'art lover', you're so close - take a peek at the 'greatest'.

Palazzo Pitti - an italian local moved one of the paintings ever so slowly for us, and revealed a hidden narrow staircase going down. Fascinating.

Good to know. We're hopefully going in February, so I guess we'll decide based on the weather.  :-X
It looks like there's a Hyatt SLH (Palazzo Vecchietti) that's a little closer, but I'd have to transfer points for that..

Anybody stay in St Regis over Shabbos?

Any issues with automatic doors, using stairs, etc?
Did you end up staying there for shabbat? What was your experience?

For better or worse, haven't been to the one in Venice so I won't have anything to compare to  ;D

The hotel is very nice. No issue with auto doors. Used stairs to get to my room. Stairs are regular open staircase (not behind fire doors)

Don't remember about sensors in the room but I don't think there were any. As far as the door goes, I taped the lock open and put up do not disturb (put all valuables in safe)

This certificate is from the Chief Rabbi of Florence Gad Fernando Piperno. In the pic with the red tie:

So what if he does interfaith work? That makes him less reliable? Maybe I'm missing something.
I actually met him checking at Ruth's. Seems like a nice guy.

Could you explain what interfaith means exactly ?  I couldn't find it online.

Which is why the crc says both are not recommended.
