Why would keeping 150K locked up for 6 months for 90k AA be worth it? Invest the capital and buy miles and keep the change....?
Considering the 90k AA is non-taxable...

Are we sure TDAmeritrade doesn't 1099?
Also I doubt you need to really keep it there for 6 months.

I believe the 90k was referring to BD. TD was only offering him 75k.

Don't know much about these things, but even if they do 1099 you, if the IRS doesn't tax miles why should it make a diff?

If you get 1099'ed the IRS will audit you if you don't pay tax on it or try to contest it.

And where can you safely deposit 150K that will earn more than 90k AA tax-free miles for 6 months?

When I opened my TDAmeritrade account two years ago, I have to keep money there for 6 months to get the full promotion miles. They won't issue miles to you until the 6 months period passes. But this case may be different from opening new account promotion. BTW, I didn't receive 1099.

Transferred money to TDameritrade last week. Points posted in spg account today. No condition to keep money in brokerage account. It is 1 week only. Now can withdraw it to wherever you want. $75k earned for 1 week 60k starwood points. Definitely better deal than bankdirect. However 1 time only, not recurring. Any suggestion for best airline miles value for converting 60k star wood points?
