MosheD's Eurotrip (Planning stages)
« on: November 10, 2015, 08:23:54 PM »
I have AC glitch booked for 12/2-9 to CDG and finally dealing with it now... I figured Id plan out in the open so that as many voices as possible can chime in  :D
I seem to remember @Yehuda planning his HM this way... I also figure this will be mechayiv me a TR
This trip is solo as of now, so no need for anything fancy- lets do this Hobo style  ;) Also, if anyone would like to join feel free to PM

I'm thinking of doing st similar to Hobo's trip (I.e. lots of dest in short period of time) but not as extreme as SuperFlyer's epicness (I only have a week). I also know that @therealtombrady did this idea recently so feel free to chime in.
I have lots of friends in London so I could spend shabbos there, but open to other options. Otherwise I'd like to pack it in.

To start with I'd like to hit DUB, Scotland (distillery) and Norway.

My q's for fellow DDFers;
Firstly, what constitues a OW vs a RT on UA? Are there any other good options for an Intra-Europe Award with lots of layovers (they dont need to be over 24 hrs)? Also whats the story for AA? (I just realized I cancelled UA card but still have AA plat and exec)...
Secondly, where exatly should I hit in Scotland and Norway this time of year? Glasgow or EDI? and clueless about Norway.
Im looking for breath taking scenery and obviously some scotch...
And finally, where else is worth a <24hr stop?

Please chime in and link relative threads!
Much appreciated

Norway is incredible for the northern lights that time of year. Svalbard will be in total darkness till the middle of March, so you have the best chance of seeing the aurora then. However Tromso will a. have some daylight so you could enjoy the other sights as well, and b. the auroras could technically be better as Tromso is directly beneath the auroral belt, while Svalbard is a couple hindered miles north.

Awesome, thanks
Total darkness can be potential halachic issue. I'll find out.
Do you know anything about the fjords. They sounds like a dayligt chill

Norway's got over 25,000 miles of coastline, pretty much all fjords... I'm sure some areas are better than others, but I'll let people here who are more knowledgeable about Norway tackle this one.

ok finished reading all relevant DDF info amoung other stuff. This is going to be tough. Problem is I am landing on a 8:30 am Thurs and leaving 1:30pm Wed. Shabbos really shortens trip. Also being that the places I want to visit are somewhat remote they take time to get to.
Possibilities are Dublin, Glasgow, or CPH for shabbos
LMK if you know of anything in any of these places
Right now thinking;
thurs, Fri, Shab - DUB
Sat night, Sun - Scotland
Mon, Tue - Norway
Wed - get back to CDG and leave

I personally think you should only stick to 2 places. I understand Shabbos complicates the itinerary, but you won't get much done in DUB on a Thu-Fri. It won't be "nothing" but it'll likely just be the city sights and maybe a day trip. I doubt you'd have time for going around Ireland to see things like the Cliffs of Moher. Save DUB for another trip or stay past Shabbos and skip a different country.

That's exactly why I skipped DUB last summer as well.
