I find humorous the fact the AA has essentially done the below to someone with 70K twitter follows for nearly 6 months.

I think they actually want to help, they just can't get anyone in BA to provide the refund. I could pressure BA, but that would be an exercise in futility and it's AAs fault for the circumstances of that night.
No idea why AA won't entertain rebooking us though.

DoT is on my side at this point, we'll see what comes of that.

Check out Casey Neistat's 'breakup' blog, posted in the last few days. He doesn't explain his particular situation very well, and may be totally in the wrong, but he's got juuuust a little more than 70k and still got no love from AA.

I'm not bringing it up to compare his situation to yours. I mentioned it as a complement to AJK’s mention if your 70k Twitter followers. My point of comparison is basically that you'd think AA would take better care of 'influencers' (I think that's the latest marketing speak), who have a real impact from a marketing perspective -maybe even more so than traditional advertising at this point.

For the life of me I don't know why, but Niestat has a very sizable following, with lot of die hards. That ‘breakup’ video will likely cost them more business than what you've written about your situation. Not just because his following is so much bigger, but also because you (and your core following) are logical people who will still fly AA and BA when it suits them. I don't think you can say the same about Niestat and his following.

Yup; all things considered, it was a pretty stupid decision by AA, even if the guy is an entitled, spoiled brat. He's got 2.5MM followers, and each one of his videos gets nearly 1MM+ views, including his fanboi AA videos. How much does that add to the bottom line? I'd submit its exponentially larger than whatever it cost AA to gift him CK status. Idiotic.

Bottom line is, companies should be building out their marketing departments to handle social media promotion via social media stars - and not just through their own accounts/channels.
