They sell other phones, and I believe that target sells some phones that work on their network if I remember correctly.

Yes, I know someone who bought a flip phone for $5 at Rite Aid and has been using it for his safelink plan. (One good bonus is that he can now receive and send picture messages, however unclear they may be.)

Thanks for replying. AFAIK, Safelink only provides talk & text, so how can you use data on that plan?

Ok, so how does this work? I buy a smartphone w/o getting a plan. How do I get the # & Safelink service transferred to the new phone?

And, which network does the phone need to be compatible with, AT&T, Verizon?

Call them up and tell them you want to transfer your number to another tracfone phone

So it needs to be a Tracfone, not just any smartphone?

Tracfone is the service provider. You can buy any smartphone with tracfone service

I spoke to SL. They said that I can transfer the # to any Tracfone, but if it's a smartphone I will not be able to use free minutes anymore (and certainly not data, which was never free), so I would have to buy minutes and data. Are you disagreeing with this? Thanks.
