ridiculous flight prices!!

Need help...
My mom wants to fly into NYC this thursday night from TLV (would love to fly straight) and return on monday or tuesday the 25, 26 july.
The prices are completely and utterly ridiculous!!! nonstop would be 1386 (for a 2 hour stopover she cant stay on a longer stopover) and straight would be $1600-$1800!!!
Anyone know why the prices are crazy??? and there are prob no award tickets either cus of the short notice.. right?
what to do?
any ideas??
i cant think of her spendind almost 1400$ on a stopover.....
need smart brains out there....

Those prices aren't at all out of the norm for summer travel from TLV. In fact they are quite regular...

and how many stopovers? more than one?

i am seeing reward tickets for 100,000 with one of the ways in business but not for non stops. the ones i see, both ways have 2 stops and if she would leave fri morn she wouldn't get out of the airport in time for shabbos.

could be dan was seeing better flights bec he is elite?

delta has for 105,000 and $44.85 in taxes. non stop both ways they also have 80,000 but with stops
or for 120,000 and more money or 140,000 the return is a stop but in economy or business

OK sooo... if dan would so kindly direct me how to find that flight wonderful (thursday mornin doesnt need to be fri mornin..)
but now my Q- is it worth it for 100k miles to go CO and stopover one way (1 hour) in business class, or rather fly Delta for 100k miles non stop also one way in business class? also how much are the taxes on CO? their 44$ in delta....
any opinions?

Swiss business class is top-notch so I would go with CO.
Call CO to book, you can't book Swiss online.
The .com desk can waive the phone booking fee if you tell them you can't book swiss online: http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/3250

I would spend the extra 20K to do plan B for CO on the return, refundable if you don't clear in businessfirst.
