Passport is always better and makes life easier, but an enhanced drivers license does the same job when driving no need for the passport.

Traveling with the whole family and they start asking where's your passport and then you tell him you have an enhanced drivers license...
Yes in the end of the day if you travel frequently from the U.S. to CAN it's worth having or even for the time you might go and have forgotten your passport you are saved with your license,that's the only reason I would get it.
Don't remember what they charge for the enhanced drivers license , I remember a couple of years ago it was only a few dollars difference so no reason not to get it if you might need it.

In NY, it's $30 extra and is only valid for 8 years. I opted to renew for the standard license this time. A passport card from the Department of State costs the same $30, fits in your wallet, allows for the same types of border crossings and is valid for 10 years, so that's a better deal.

Never heard about that passport card, interesting.
It's $30 to renew but originally cost $65 To get which you have to decide if it's needed if you have a passport and license, might just be worth it to upgrade to an enhanced drivers license to cross the borders.

I got it when renewing my passport, so it was just an extra $30.

Even though I have a passport i can assume it cost 65$ it's only that you were renewing it that you paid a cheaper price?

I suspect that if you use form DS-82, check off the option for passport card only and mail in your passport book with $30, they will cancel your passport book and mail it back to you, even if there are a few years left until it expires.

That won't work for me still need my passport for international travel.

So to gain the extra 2 years its worth to carry an extra card in your wallet during these 10 years?

Funny that you just posted this. I was supposed to take a flight LGA-YYZ early this morning . Before I went to bed last night, I went to get my passport and it was missing. Spent two hours looking for it before canceling my ticket and going to bed. At one point I thought about maybe my enhanced NY license would work but after a little research, I realized it wouldn't for flying, just land and sea crossings.

how did you book a flight without looking at your passport anyways...? I guess these ddf frequent flyers know their passport #'s by heart..
