Author Topic: REstoring losts txts on a palm centro (Read 3415 times)

Anyone ever do this? I have Resco backup, and tried to restore but the text messages did not show up. I also sync'd with palm desktop yesterday, but have never used before to restore, so not sure how to do that. It doesnt appear that texts are even backed up with palm desktop...

Anyone that did this before and can help? Thanks

Never used Resco, but with Palm Desktop you can restore by going to Hotsync Manager>Custom>Desktop overwrite handheld.

yes it can be done, you must restore the messages database file (usually pretty large).

All you need is that file, you will lose however, any txts which you received since that backup

I do see messages_database in the palm backup folder. Would that not sync back automatically in a hotsync where the desktop overwrites the handheld?

It probably would, I don't really use palm desktop as every time I used it I would end up with a different problem (duplicates, or deleted stuff, or it starts to take everything from my card) so I usually stick to resco, and its great!
There are 2 things to keep in mind 1 is that it is a must to backup to an external location (copy resco file to pc). 2 Resco zip files cannot be read (without heavy software) on a PC unless they include crc? (basically a hash to verify contents).

interesting...yesterday, somehow all of my txts from my centro got erased! I have no idea how/why, but it's all gone, and it was not backed up. maybe its time for a new phone (ive had this (old) centro for 3.5 years!)

Check how large your messages database file is they just might still be there just that they're not showing as the file is corrupted.

I checked. it used to be 5000+kb now its 3kb. its gone.

My call log listed had calls from 3.5 years and got corrupted from being so large. I had to purge a bunch of calls to fix it.

so you're saying it's (maybe) not becasue of the phone, its simply that the file got too big so the phone dumped it?

Im using hotsyn manager 7.0.2 and I do not see the Hotsync Manager>Custom>Desktop overwrite handheld option...

You need to open hotsync manager and then click on it in your desktop tray to get to custom.

I did. When I right click it it shows settings and install as options.

Just go to resco backup>restore>partial restore- select files>messages database

I managed to backup to a version from november....that leaves almost 4 months of missing texts. for some reason the 3 other backups do not bring back the texts.

My only hope appears to be hot sync manager, but I don't see that custom option anywhere.

You might want to try performing a search in windows.

You probably did not perform a full backup then.
