Hey,

so i am an att customer for 6 years with an old plan that i love because i have the north america package and i live in Canada so i have a US phone for calls, text etc...

I got a letter from att saying that as of May 15 their service will no longer work on the old sim cards and i have to get a new sim card, and since my plan doesnt exist now, i have to get a new plan.

the problem is their new plans stink! the main problem is that no other cell company has a good package for Canada. otherwise i would switch because my contract ended years ago.

Forum members, please help.

thanks in advance!

**UPDATE**

i just spoke to att for an hour with a nice cancellation rep

she says there is nothing they can do, no bonuses, no extra minutes, no monthly rebates to get the price down, nothing!

so now i guess i am looking for a new carrier?

So who has the best rates for CANADA?

It might be a good idea to get a canadian plan like rogers with north america included... with the new competition coming into the market in canada, rogers is giving everything away... worth a try!

I think your only real options among the big 4 are Verizon's Canada plan and T-Mobile's $10 International add-on (a great value if you'll be calling any of the other countries).

I would imagine they wouldn't want you to stay on if you're doing most of your calls to and from Canada. You're better off with a Canadian carrier and using something like Google Voice to make your calls to the US and other countries.

I wouldn't be surprised if T mobile wouldn't allow you to permanently use it in Canada.

Sprint used to have a Canada included plan. Many members of my family had it and as I recall sprint gave them issues if to high of a percentage of minutes were used in Canada

They said 50%.  My bro used it in Toronto for a year without issue though.
'Twas a great plan...that's why Sprint had to get rid of it :P

Was he on a shared plan? They often calculate the 50% for combined usage of all lines on a shared plan.

thanks guys for the help, but the reason i have the phone is so we can have people in the US call us and mainy TEXT us for free. so getting a canadian phone with good us rates doesnt help for that reason.

keep them coming...are there no other options?

Not that this would work for you but others maybe...

Telus doesent make a difference if youre texting in canada or to the US. and also while youre in the US they dont charge extra to text...

But for those in the US it will be long distance.
