YMMV. Some dates have zero availability, some dates are wide open, some reps don't know how to search PG award space, some reps claim they can't book PG award space...

All the worries of me flying in a separate class as my wife can now be put to rest.

Unlike reports in the Daily Mail my wife will be joining me in F this time around.

Thanks to AJK for confirming the best seat situation and CX being able to force my wife into 2A.

Let us hope that no babies needing bassinets are traveling with us and we should be all set.

Precisely 8 days in my case on a flight that was F5.

Not definitely.

Yes it's more secluded as you have that side to yourselves but you can't really see eachother either. It's more secluded from eachother too.

1D/1K you're at least sitting "next to" eachother.

Definitely.

Can't see each other from D/K seats either without getting off your seat and virtually standing up. At that point, you may as well avoid double the foot traffic of and less seclusion of D/K. Not to mention that both 1A/2A have window seats, as opposed to one seat stuck in middle.

It's objectively the better choice.

I had similar situation. I had 1 A and 2K and she told us not to sit and waited for passenger in 2D came and had us switch. So I got 2D & @K which were great! There is a large wall (part of the seat of D) between Row A and D which makes it impossible to really be next to each other unless you have a "d" & "K"

Worth it to take those and at the off chance that 2 F seats open, pay a combined 110k for them?

So defeats the purpose on using AA pre deval.

sorry to be so late to the party. I am seeing this now for the first time. I know everything worked out for you at the end but the best thing to do would have been(this is what I did) 2 book any 2 Fs that you find. As you get closer if @ F seats open up on the same flight than great! If not F can be changed to J by paying an additional 2.5k AA and no redeposit fee since you are adding miles

same happened with me and my daughter we were originally in 2A/D and the guy was already sitting in 2K and he agreed to move to 1A which was good for him really as he had the whole A side to himself. 1K was empty as well the only other seat taken was 1D
