Some say you can used a flashlight
Obviously, no one will permit you to kindle a menorah on an airplane. However, according to those opinions that one may fulfill the mitzvah of kindling Chanukah lights with a flashlight or an electric light (a subject we will iy"H discuss a different time), Shlomo has an interesting solution to his predicament. He can take a flashlight or other battery operated light onto the plane with him, turn it on for the purpose of fulfilling the mitzvah of Ner Chanukah, and leave it burning for half an hour. Although this is only one light, as mentioned above, one fulfills the mitzvah of Ner Chanukah by kindling only one light. (Of course, he could bring along a few flashlights and fulfill the mitzvah mehadrin min hamehadrin.) For those interested in following this approach, Rav Shlomoh Zalman Auerbach contends that it is preferable to fulfill the mitzvah of Ner Chanukah with a battery operated light over other electric lights (Halichos Shlomoh Volume 2, pg. 283)
Many on DDF have traveled on chanukah, so I can hear why someone would assume many have asked their Rav and are interested in hearing the answers.
no one said they asked or brought any credible source, yet op's response was "will do". Something like this should be brought to a competent rov that's all.
With a bracha?
Yup. IDK where gold toke Semicheh but to make a Shliech to light candles is like making a Shliech to put on Tefilin. No worky.
I had not realized that the question was that complex.. Hence my "will do" to what seemed a sensitive solution.Re previous questions: will be sleeping in the plane (taking off 10pm - lands 8am), 3h connection, traveling without wife :-)
I once lit at the FCT in Frankfurt airport. Used the cigar lounge as it was empty and I knew there would not be smoke alarm...
I flew 2 nights ago on LY. Was in the air the entire 2nd night. I got a psak to light 1 electric tea light without a Bracha. I couldn't find one. Amazing savings was sold out. So I turned on the light above me for a half hour and sang haneiros halalu and al hanissim.
No flashlights?
No need. Every seat has a light with a switch to turn on.
RSZ was of the opinion that a battery operated device is preferable because it has its own limited fuel supply similar to a menorah.
But what would be say about LED flashlights?
-100
Please learn next time before -1000....You could make a Shaliach if you're home lets say and for some reason you are not able to light the candles yourself, lets say you already lid the Shabbos candles, you can appoint someone in the household to light on your behalf. But when you are in the airport etc you can not appoint a random person as a Shaliach that he should light for you in his house.
