Choice Privileges
« on: December 09, 2015, 06:28:26 PM »
I have Choice Privileges points expiring at the end of the month. Is there any way to keep them from expiring, besides for staying at one of their hotels?

TIA
Shout out to Meshugener!

I don't believe so. They expire after 2 years regardless of any activity

In case people don't realize, Choice has a brand called Ascend Collection, which are boutique, and often also upscale, hotels. Ascend Collection includes many of the properties in the Bluegreen Vacation Club (https://www.bluegreenvacations.com) - all of which are very nice resorts/condos, some going for $400+ a night.

They can all be booked with Choice points with the same normal redemption rates as their other 99% of hotels - Quality/Comfort/Sleep/Clarion etc.

Choice points transfer from Amex at 1:1, and can be bought via cash/points for 0.75.

Case in point, I just booked a $460 room, for one night, at one of the Ascend Collection - Bluegreen Resorts, for 20k points. I bought 10k points for $75 and transferred the other 10k from Amex (- a value of 3.85 per point!).

If I'd bought the full 20k points, it would have been $150 total for the night (and if I had transferred the full 20k from Amex I would've gotten a value of 2.3).

why wouldn't you buy all 20k?
Being that you could have bought for .75 thats technically the value you got from them, no?

Yes, you're right - I only realized that afterwards.

I was on a tight budget for that trip, and $75 had sounded better than $150.

Also, worth mentioning that you need a min of 6k starting balance in order to start buying points via cash/points, so I just transferred 10k from Amex to start with. Choice sells their own points for 1.1, so that still would've been a better deal than using Amex.

Choice Privileges introduces rollover nights. Pretty cool. Didn’t see it mentioned anywhere.
