Car Blocking My Driveway For 3 days: Should I Tow?
« on: December 13, 2015, 02:48:09 PM »
There's a car parked in front of my driveway since Thursday night.😡 He/she parked with the hazard lights on so the battery is drained.

I never felt comfortable towing someone's vehicle as it's a huge headache and quite expensive (for the car owner) I usually just put up a note asking not to block my driveway with a warning that next time I'll tow it, and yes, I do keep track if anyone does it twice I'd tow.

Now this car has been there for 3 days and caused me quite some headache, Thursday night I came home from a Chanukah party 2-3 o'clock and had to park 2 blocks down and so on...

Should I tow it?

I've heard that if one pours oil on the tiers it makes it easy to push the car?

Bare minimum you tow.
I would slash his tires and/or pour sand in the gas tank

Why don't you call the police and have it ticketed?  Then they can see if it was stolen.

Is your driveway 100% legal?

I will have to do it. Thanks for the courage.

If the person parked with the hazard lights on, it is obviously someone that was in a rush and couldnt find parking in their hurry. If the person still didn't come to get there car it might be because they are stuck with someone in the hospital or something like that. Or whatever resson you might want to imagine...
Thats definitely not a resson to damage the persons car. You are entitled to use the law to defend you and have it towed.

Why should I think it's a stolen vehicle?
I once called the police, it waisted 2 hours of my life.

It's non sense to pour oil etc.. and damage the car. And for all you know you WILL have to pay to get the damages fixed. You can call up the police and have the vehicle towed. We have laws. You are not in Yeshivah. Where do you live?

Being in a rush to the hospital etc. is not an excuse, he should've parked at a pump (there's one, 200 feet from my driveway) and pay the $115. I can't think what I would've done if I would've been in the garage not being able to get my car out for 3 days...

ETA: It definitely does not warrant me to damage ones property but it's definitely not an excuse.

So get it towed, I was just saying that damaging the car is wrong

Lol, the guy never insisted to actually ruin the guys car.

That's not how i understood it.

The guy deserves all the above, lucky him we live in a country with laws and let the law enforcement officers take care of it.

Will pouring oil on the bottom of the tires and push the car cause damage?

At most to the tires... But even new tires which you most probably will not cause him to need is probably cheaper than the tow expense
