COPA AIR - Star Alliance
« on: December 16, 2015, 10:39:57 AM »
Trying to book nonstop from Belize to Panama mid March. COPA AIR seems to be the only one offering this. They are a star alliance.

Any one aware if there is a way to book this through points. Either transfer United or book directly?

Thank you.

UA and SQ both work, I'd imagine other partners as well.

Ok. Thanks.

You can definitely book thru SQ.  They also allow free stopovers and it's only 35k RT from US to Central America so maybe make Panama your stopover to/from Belize.  We're doing a Panama trip with Cancun as the stopover.

J is basically domestic F. Some planes are newer and vastly better than others, but no way of knowing which is which ahead of time.

If they have better seats and the route and price makes sense, then sure, why not?

I know it's a question that only I can answer for myself, but I'm interested to know your (and others') opinion on whether it's worth the extra UA miles to travel in J? 17.5k vs. 30k each way.   I realize it is "domestic F" and the KSML may be inedible.  I have access to PP lounges, so not much benefit, plus I don't even know what lounge Copa uses at BOS? Maybe the UA lounge in a totally different terminal, not connected airside?

But it's a small amount of additional miles to fly J...is it worth it?

I should’ve mentioned, the route is Boston to Panama City. It’s about six hours each way.

If it were me I would fly J. Or you can fly CA via IAH in F for 40k

For me, it was absolutely worth it. I've done it a couple of times.

But coach is worse for me than for most others, so that's definitely something to think about.

Yes, I understand that you are something like  5’18”  so that makes sense.

Tempting but that’s an extra flight and 10k more each way pp.

We will probably fly Copa J.  Thank you both.

True, it's worth it only if you specifically want to experience it. IMO it's pretty cool but probably not worth it in your situation.

Copa finally getting lie-flat seats on some aircraft:

This is a very welcome change, as mileage availability to Central and South America are often excellent.

First flights were to TPA and it's also going to feature on the SFO route... They call it "Dreams" , light-years ahead of the recliners which are a pain on an EZE/SCL-PTY type route.

ExpertFlyer shows the 739 on the SFO-PTY route tomorrow but cabins look just like the 738. 4 rows of J and Rows 5-33 as Y...

They also have a Y+ (still 3-3 seating but with a 10" IFE screen) no IFE (except streming in regular Y).

Business Class

Y+ Cabin
