Recommendations for men's shoes and where to buy them?
« on: March 03, 2011, 11:41:32 AM »
Hey DDers, I need some help.  I've practically worn my work shoes through and I wanted to get some feedback on what type of shoes the men like.  I need something comfortable but nice enough for an office setting.  Also, I don't want to pay an arm and a leg since I tend to go through shoes fairly quickly.  Any suggestions?

I'm addicted to Ecco.  Haven't worn anything else in years.  My wife hates how most of them look but they are just too darn comfortable to give up!

While they are expensive Nordstom Rack has great deal on them.  I stocked on them with the groupon for NR last year!

BTW if anyone wants an incredibly comfortable and warm winter boot that looks close to a pair of regular shoes when you put your pants over the side of them:

Hmm, never tried Ecco but sounds good.  I'll have to stop by the Rack this weekend.  Do they last?  How are they for rain and other bad weather?

They last a long time and are fine in bad weather.  And most styles are ridiculously comfortable although they do make lines that are not as comfortable.  I'm just picky though.

Im a fan of buying quality shoes even if they are expensive and taking good care of them.

Ive been wearing a pair of Cole Haan dress shoes every day for over 2 years and they still look great.
I have another pair (forgot the brand) that i wear on shabbos that ive been wearing for over 3 years and also in excellent condition.
Granted, they were expensive...one was about $100-125 and the other was around $250 (the 3 year one). Ive replaced the soles of them here and there as well as put rubber bottoms on over the leather to keep them from wearing dewn.
Ive found that i only lose by buying cheap shoes as they dont last.

So you all can make fun of my comfortable footwear:
Weekday and Shabbos

Both were under $70 at the Rack with the groupon deal.
I've yet to find another brand that comes close to Ecco's comfort+durability.

I can certainly understand your viewpoint, and I try not to skimp on my foot health with bad shoes.  However, I think you come out equal buying a $250 pair of shoes (less often) that you have to resole/modify compared to buying a $60 pair every year.  My last pair of Rockports ($65 clearance) lasted me nearly 2 years of heavy use.

I shop by price, since I practically eat my shoes...

The only shoes that have lasted a bit longer for me are Cole Haans. IMO (no offense to any of you posters) Eccco's usually look 'old'.

I have a pair of Bally shoes ('Daniell') that I got for 300 on sale for my wedding. Almost 3 years later it looks almost new with (almost)everyday wear. Occasionally I have to change the taps.

An $80 Aldo or Steve Madden will last max. a year with its poor "man made" sole. Even if I plan to keep my $300 dollar Bally for just 3 more years(I reckon it will last longer), thus averaging $50 per year, I'm still frugally superior to the Aldo consumer(no offense).
