Lots of things can work to lose weight. Heck, if you ate only junk food but kept your calories low you'd still lose weight. But that doesn't really mean much.   And if you're eating the wrong foods you're going to end up being hungry still and it won't last.

It's more than that. A rib steak has about 7-800 calories. If you're watching calories, you don't eat it. If you're watching carbs, you do eat it. What do you eat when you don't eat carbs or calories?

I've never gone on any classic diet so I wouldn't even think like that. I did at one point start looking at what I was eating, what we as a nation eat and the problems people face (especially as they get older) because of it.  I realized I didn't want to get older and start having problems that could have easily been avoided with a better diet and more active lifestyle.

I changed my eating habits after doing research into what our body needs and paying attention to what I was eating.
Eliminating what I shouldn't be eating and focusing on adding more good fats, and nutrient filled foods.

In a nutshell my diet these days is a lot more plant based and I go easy on dairy and gluten.
I also cut back added sugar to about 6-9 teaspoons a day.   That was about it.

What is amazing is all the changes that automatically followed.
Weight loss
Not craving snacks throughout the day
The resetting of my palette
And just feeling all around better and more energized.
I didn't even know I felt "bad" until I started feeling great.

The first week was hard, especially the lack of sugar. It's amazing how sugar is in everything!
The first few weeks were hard only that I had to be prepared more with food and having healthy things available.
At the end of the day eating right can potentially require more time to actually making your meals but it's a small price to pay.

Any by now it's all second nature.

I never really tried dieting before because dieting isn't for me. Having to count calories?  Or cut out different foods... etc..

Doesn't mean i dont like bread

I meant your good fats. The stuff you need. The stuff that helps you feel full longer.  Bread doesn't have much fat in it as it is and it isn't healthy fats.

Some musings.

Today was a very hard day. I woke up and stood upon the scale again. Instead of the disappointing same (hasn't gone down since around day 4 of the diet) numbers it's been showing me the past few days- it had jumped up 5lbs! Now, I know I didn't gain 5lbs of fat in one day. But still. It's annoying. And frustrating. And discouraging. And demoralizing. (I know, I know. I should have listened to you guys... But I only learn from my own [repeated] mistakes).

I cheated today. I had 2 cookies- then 2 chocolates, then another 2 cookies, then some sweet potato chips, then a coffee, then a donut. That's all I ate today.

So I'm starting over.

I'm going to weigh myself just twice more on the next two Mondays. Then I'm done.  I'm chucking the scale out the window. Because for me- it's not about the numbers. It's about health. Even if I don't lose a single pound (heaven help me!) I still have to do it. I just realized I'm not on a diet. I'm not just changing the foods I'm eat for the next few months until I become skinny- and then I can go back to living off bread and potatoes and pasta and pizza. I'd end up right back here. My genes carry a predisposition for insulin resistance, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. It isn't fair- and I could cry about until the cows come home, but it won't change a thing. I need to change for life.

I'm adopting a new mantra: Food is fuel and nutrition.
It isn't about pleasure (though it shouldn't be a punishment). It isn't about obsession, or boredom, or comfort.

Food is fuel and nutrition.

I was confused about one area- Dr. Ludwig says:
Quote
During Phase 2, fat drops to 40% of total calories, while the plan expands to include whole grains, like brown rice, steel-cut oats, and quinoa. This is when excess pounds start dropping, which for some people could be 5 to 10 pounds, or for others could be 50 pounds.

Does he mean that there is no weight loss in Phase 1? Or that all the rest of the weight not lost during Phase 1 will be lost throughout the course of Phase 2?

There will be weight lose OK most people on phase one. However the point of phase one is to start repairing the damage you've done and set your fast cells lose. Once that's done then please two is when you start the real deal. I'm still in the preparation stage for the first phase which is the hardest. O have lots to do and am busy atm so bezh after yud shvat.
