Some of my friends and I have been doing a bit of a different game for the last ~15 weeks with 5 guys and I am down nearly 30 pounds. I wonder if people here would like this a bit more.

Way it works is everyone sets their own goals for the next X number of weeks. You set a goal for each and every week. So lets say this was a 8 week game my goals would be like this:

Week 1. 168
Week 2. 167
Week 3. 166
Week 4. 165
Week 5. 164
Week 6. 163
Week 7. 162
Week 8. 161

Your goals can be higher to challenge yourself more. You also can set a goal some weeks of maintaining (i.e. lets say you know that week you will be on vacation or a family simcha etc you can set that up in advance) although no setting goals to gain weight.

Each week you have to hit the goals that you set for yourself, if you do not you have to pay everyone in the group who hit their goals X dollars (we did 3 so with 5 guys it was 15 dollars max if you were the only one who didn't make it). If lots of people join we could do $1, so for example if there are 10 people and they all hit their goals that week but I do not then I have to pay $1 to each person in the group.

One of the nice things about this is it really forces you to be good because you don't want to get to far behind where the later weeks will be impossible to catch up on if you are not doing good in the earlier weeks. It also doesn't have the drawback of the original game in this thread where even when you do your best someone else can end up taking all the money because they lost more weight then you.

thoughts or clarifications? I think me personally I would prefer this to be a 4 or 5 week game and then people can set new goals again if they would like to go again.

I like this idea better than the winner-takes-all way.

Forgot to add that at any time you can adjust your goals to make them harder but not to make them easier.

I like your idea @12HRS

I found that once you already paid the money- it's kind of easier to forget about it and neglect your goals. You don't feel as guilty. If you know that you will have to pay in the future- that might be more motivating.

Are we all ready to start on Thursday? Or should we start on the 1st of Feb.?

Only thing- how do we make sure that everybody who commits will actually pay up and not just drop out?

obviously I would prefer to do this with people that have been around and therefore there is a bit of an honor system (same as in the previous game where anyone could lie about how much they lost)

thats one of the reasons that a 5 week program is good, realistically if a person cares they won't lose but even f they mess up the last couple weeks it won't be so painful that they wouldn't pay. if it was 10 or more weeks and by 5 weeks someone is out its going to be very hard for them to cough up 10/15 every week.

just remembered that a rav told us to be "makneh" the money that you could potentially owe ahead of time.

we could also collect $50 per person and then every week if you make it give $10 back or distribute to the group.
