Thinking of doing a simple low calorie diet? Might not be the smartest way to do it.

Maybe he has data in other places, but in the page shown he makes up a case and says with an "of course not" that the result will fit his theory. Prove the of course not. ערבך ערבא צריך

Am I the only one here who has no clue what that means?

Maybe someone can provide an example?

http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm

If somebody is 6ft tall and weighs 220 then to get to a BMI of 25 he'd need to lose around 40lbs. Whatever % of 40lbs he loses is his fat % loss

Kekwik and Pawan's study proves that calories from different sources affect the body differently. So it's the source and type of calorie that makes the difference as opposed to the amount. And if you will allot all of your limited calories to carbs you may even end up gaining weight.

This is crazy, no way am I going down to 180! Don't want to look like my grandfather after the concentration camps. This might be a push to see that you're overweight and need to lose some pounds, but nothing more.

I agree that BMI is really an outdated form of fat calculation. Best way to calculate body fat % is through an MRI. But I'm not about to do that.

just do % of body weight lost

And again- BMI isn't the best calculator because it doesn't take into account build or bone and muscle density.

Along with exercise and proper diet, comes muscle gain. So you while you lose body fat- you won't become scrawny or look starved.

But if we're being technical- you can't really know if you're losing muscles weight, water weight or fat weight.

OK. I'll let you know how I look when I reach that.

Now, should I pay in even though I know I can't possibly reach that in a month (or 3 for that matter)?

It's not about reaching it's about who gets closest.

And at the end of the day it's about losing weight. Not winning cash. That's just to make things more exciting.

In fact, even though I started this- it's highly unlikely that I'd actually win. First of all, as a woman, my weight naturally fluctuates more. Secondly, I'm currently on a medication that makes it quite hard to lose weight and very easy to gain.

true, but assumption is someone losing some of his muscle is also losing fat and water/food weight lost should be relatively similar for most people.

So to clarify yet again, if I'm at a bmi of 21.5 and I get to 20 that counts as 100%?

Who cares?  Let's just keep it simple. The BMI angle as too much confusion and complication.

Not really better that way. Someone who weighs 200# has an easier time losing 10# than someone who weighs 150#
