Smartphone insurance
« on: February 02, 2016, 11:09:52 AM »
My phone screen just cracked, so I went to my Verizon insurance program (Asurion) to replace it - after a $150 deductible.
Does anyone know of a reliable alternative cell phone insurance with lower deductibles?

Wells Fargo gives you damage and theft insurance with $25 deductible if you pay the wireless bill with one of their credit cards.

I self insure.
How often do you need to fix/ replace your phone?  How many phones are in your household? If you need to put in $150 every 3 months on 1 of the 4 phones in your family, it's cheaper than $20/ month/ 4 phones, which is $960.  Buying good cases and screen protectors has to be added into the 'self-insurance' cost too.

SQUARETRADE is the BEST.

I used them to replace a broken s6 egde screen only $75 deductible. Then when the same phone stopped working a few months later, I filed another claim and got market value for the phone. Over $700 in a check 3 days later and the policy only costs $99 for 2 years.
