IF YOUR OBI NEEDS UPDATES SEE HERE

See here for some good tutorials on setting up the Obi.

You can switch your current landline number into a Google Voice account to retain your phone number on a free Obi phone line.
To port your landline to GV:
  • Get ahold of an old Page Plus or Verizon cell phone that isn't being used. Port your existing landline to Page Plus for free through their website.
  • Fill out the port form and put in your landline number and the old PP cell phone's ESN or MEID number (from under the battery) and wait a couple of days for it to go through. You will know that the port is complete, when dialing your landline rings on the cell phone.
  • Once the account is active, buy $10 worth of minutes from PagePlus in order to receive the verification call from GV.
  • Now you can initiate the GV port. It's a good idea to open a new Gmail account. You can then setup all emails that come to that account (all the voicemails notifications) to be forwarded to your main Gmail account. Login to GV from the new account and port in your number. It will cost $20, and you will get an email when the port to GV is complete.
Using the above method will only have incoming Caller ID numbers, not names. If you want names as well, follow these steps:
  • Go to https://www.callcentric.com/, click Products, then click the yellow Get A Number button next to Free Phone Number.
  • Use the tool on the left to pick an area code, then order the number. It doesn’t have to be something memorable, because no one will ever have to dial it.
  • When it asks if you’re in US/Canada, either select Yes to use their E911 service, or No if you want to use something else. Callcentric setup is free, plus $1.50/mo if you want E911 services. See below for more details.
  • After you receive a confirmation email from Callcentric with your new account info, go to obitalk.com, and log into your Obi. Click SP2, scroll down to OBiTALK Compatible Service Providers, then click Next. Follow the prompts to link your Callcentric account. In the box that says Callcentric Number, enter the 1777 number you got in the email. Uncheck Primary Line for Outgoing Calls and 911.
  • Open Google Voice, go into Settings, and add a forwarding phone. Enter the real phone number you got in the email from Callcentric. Google will call it to confirm; it should ring on your Obi. Answer it and enter the code shown by GV.
  • Uncheck forward to Google Chat.
  • Log into your Callcentric account. Click Preferences. Under General, enable Caller ID with name (Inbound calls). (You can also change the maximum call duration, and unlist yourself from the directory).
or this for a $5 one time fee.

If you’re not using Callcentric, you have to set up SP3 in Obi settings to point to your E911 provider’s account.
E911 providers:
Callcentric$18/year ($1.50/mo) + $1.50 setup
Anveo$15/year
http://www.gv911.com/$12/year
http://www.bulkvs.com/e911.html$8.64/year ($0.72/mo)

If you want the SP2 to ring like the standard US ringtone:
go to obi expert config, then to voice service, select sp2, and change it to this:
X_ServProvProfile B
X_RingProfile   A
X_CodecProfile   A

You can add your CID http://www.listyourself.net/ListYourself/listing.jsp?ID=new
and check your CID http://who.scalling.com/411/

Same problem.
All seems fine, green light, obi shows connected online. But when incoming calls come in, when I pick up none of the parties get connected, and also with outgoing calls, have a dial tone but it won’t call.
It rings?

Try changing the phone wire or a different phone.

That can resolve having a dial tone but calls not going through?

Try changing the phone wire or a different phone.
What does that have to do with it? If the dial tone is audible, the phone wire should be just as good for hearing the other party.

No one can even attempt to assist you without more details.

Is it connected to an ethernet cable to a normal internet connection?
What's the status of the Network indicator?
Do you get an IP? If yes, can you login to the device?
good connection, network indicator is on, the device is connected can log in it just doesnt configure with the service provider (since it stopped working i tried to reset it). it comes up registration not required, or failed to connect.

For all those having issues with their Obi 100s, here is the fix:

http://www.obifirmware.com/#cta

Took two minutes total, works like new after reboot.

Worked great!
Thank you

You need to give more details if you want someone to help you. Did you read the wiki?

Email came this morning from Simonics that they are giving up and service could stop any moment.

I must say that Simonics was one of the most useful things I learned about on DDF, sad to see it go, I guess time to get a new OBi, and submit to their shenanigans.

ETA: I now notice that Polycom took over Obihai back in January, so maybe there will be a little more consistency and less blackmailing, now that they're owned by a major telephony player.

THIS IMPORTANT SERVICE CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT IS BEING SENT TO ALL USERS OF SIMON TELEPHONICS GOOGLE VOICE GATEWAY.

You may have read that in late April, Google announced that they will be discontinuing XMPP Interop with Google Voice. See our news posting at <https://simonics.com/2018/05/future-of-google-voice-gateway/>. Since that time, we have worked on an updated Google Voice Gateway implementation that would allow us to connect to Google using their new SIP-based protocol. From late May to mid-June, we ran a beta test of this new software to find bugs and determined that it would be suitable for production.

On Sunday, June 24, we attempted to put the new software into production. A serious problem was uncovered at this point related to the large number of accounts we are registering to Google Voice. On Tuesday, the system was rolled back and we studied the problem. Unfortunately, what we found was a very large increase of computing resources needed in order to support the new platform at production scale. We attempted some optimizations, but the problems are fundamental to the VoIP engine, and the resource requirements to run the new platform are not sustainable.

With regrets, I am announcing the discontinuation of Google Voice Gateway at the time when Google fully discontinues their XMPP interop. This was slated to begin on June 18, so we expect that the remaining time is short--perhaps another week. Thank you to all of you who have supported this service over its 6+ year history.

Accounts should be working at this time using the Google Chat (XMPP) connections. If you are not receiving calls, please see the post by me on this forum thread: <http://support.simonics.com/support/discussions/topics/3000170148/page/3>.

Users looking to continue service with Google Voice using regular phones should consider the Obihai 2xx, 10xx, and 2xxx series phones, or use the new Google Voice app for Android (wi-fi calling).

Again, thank you for a good run with the Google Voice Gateway.

Sincerely,
Bill Simon

I'm a little confused in the wiki. By the part with callcentric. How is there going to be incoming caller id?

Whats the process? Someone calls my landline (voice #) then it gets forwarded to callcentric which is directly connected to obi and obi displays caller ID from callcentric?

And outgoing calls would be obi directly through Google voice?

Is there added latency on incoming calls from the extra connection? Is it noticeable?

Also why do I have to enter the 1777 number and not the regular one when linking the sp2 thingy?
My Tapatalk notifications don't always work.

Yes

You need to set the line with the Google Voice account as the primary for outgoing calls.

Not that I know of.

The 1777 number is how it registers with Callcentric.
