IF YOUR OBI NEEDS UPDATES SEE HERE

See here for some good tutorials on setting up the Obi.

You can switch your current landline number into a Google Voice account to retain your phone number on a free Obi phone line.
To port your landline to GV:
  • Get ahold of an old Page Plus or Verizon cell phone that isn't being used. Port your existing landline to Page Plus for free through their website.
  • Fill out the port form and put in your landline number and the old PP cell phone's ESN or MEID number (from under the battery) and wait a couple of days for it to go through. You will know that the port is complete, when dialing your landline rings on the cell phone.
  • Once the account is active, buy $10 worth of minutes from PagePlus in order to receive the verification call from GV.
  • Now you can initiate the GV port. It's a good idea to open a new Gmail account. You can then setup all emails that come to that account (all the voicemails notifications) to be forwarded to your main Gmail account. Login to GV from the new account and port in your number. It will cost $20, and you will get an email when the port to GV is complete.
Using the above method will only have incoming Caller ID numbers, not names. If you want names as well, follow these steps:
  • Go to https://www.callcentric.com/, click Products, then click the yellow Get A Number button next to Free Phone Number.
  • Use the tool on the left to pick an area code, then order the number. It doesn’t have to be something memorable, because no one will ever have to dial it.
  • When it asks if you’re in US/Canada, either select Yes to use their E911 service, or No if you want to use something else. Callcentric setup is free, plus $1.50/mo if you want E911 services. See below for more details.
  • After you receive a confirmation email from Callcentric with your new account info, go to obitalk.com, and log into your Obi. Click SP2, scroll down to OBiTALK Compatible Service Providers, then click Next. Follow the prompts to link your Callcentric account. In the box that says Callcentric Number, enter the 1777 number you got in the email. Uncheck Primary Line for Outgoing Calls and 911.
  • Open Google Voice, go into Settings, and add a forwarding phone. Enter the real phone number you got in the email from Callcentric. Google will call it to confirm; it should ring on your Obi. Answer it and enter the code shown by GV.
  • Uncheck forward to Google Chat.
  • Log into your Callcentric account. Click Preferences. Under General, enable Caller ID with name (Inbound calls). (You can also change the maximum call duration, and unlist yourself from the directory).
or this for a $5 one time fee.
https://simonics.com/gw/?promo=nerdvittles

If you’re not using Callcentric, you have to set up SP3 in Obi settings to point to your E911 provider’s account.
E911 providers:
Callcentric$18/year ($1.50/mo) + $1.50 setup
Anveo$15/year
http://www.gv911.com/$12/year
http://www.bulkvs.com/e911.html$8.64/year ($0.72/mo)

If you want the SP2 to ring like the standard US ringtone:
go to obi expert config, then to voice service, select sp2, and change it to this:
X_ServProvProfile B
X_RingProfile   A
X_CodecProfile   A

You can add your CID http://www.listyourself.net/ListYourself/listing.jsp?ID=new
and check your CID http://who.scalling.com/411/

No I don't know, please explain

It's a 4G wireless-based service (similar to MiFi).

I don't think they have LTE. Point is, this
I have Clear for my internet service.

Is there any way to get OBi to work with it?

Thanks!
is a legitimate question, since wireless-based Internet may have latency that is too high to properly support VoIP.

Questioin: I recently moved, and just got my new Optimum internet service hooked up.

In my old house, when I originally had Optimum Voice + Internet, Optimum plugged something from my modem to a house phone jack (possibly the main phone jack leading into the house?) which turned all of my house jacks into Optimum phone (instead of being limited to just using the jack in my modem). That came in handy when I got an Obi because again I was able to turn all of the house jacks into my Obi phone.

Now, Optimum came down and installed internet. As of now, I need to use the modem (or router) to plug into my obi and the built in house jacks don't have phone service. I tried plugging the Obi into a nearby house jack hoping it would convert the entire house into Obi but it didn't work (possibly because I need to locate the main phone line leading into the house and hijack it into Obi service?).

Does anyone here have experience with how to configure that all of the house jacks should be connected to my Obi?

what your trying to do is commonly referred to as backfeeding.
It should work no matter which jack you plug into as long as the wires are done right. Also there can't be other service on the lines
How far away did you move?

any jack should work.

just make sure there are no other phone services connected to your lines, cause it can possibly fry your obi.

some older houses have separate phone jacks for separate lines so they are not always necessarily connected. Look in your phone box outside, maybe you can see how many are pugged in...?
Also you might just have a bad jack.

I assume there is not currently any other phone service at the house (unless the previous tennant never disconnected theirs?)

After Pesach I will A)Test another jack  B) Take a look at the outside phone box and try to see if there are 2 lines

You can open up the phone jacks and check if the wiring is via looping, or direct feeds.

Once I open it up, what does looping look like and what does direct feed look like?
Once I determine that, what do I do with that information?

looping is where the wire is ran inside the house from phone jack to phone jack. You would see a minimum of two sets of wires. That would mean all the lines jacks are connected.

Direct feed is where each jack is connected directly to the main circut.

If its a basement they sometimes have a jack from the upstairs in the basement.

Update:
I plugged the phone into a few different jacks around the house and determined that there are no current active phone lines.
I opened a few jacks and saw that they appear to be looped (although one of the ones that I opened was not).

I opened up the phone box out side the house and saw wires attached to 4 screws leading me to believe that the house is wired for two lines.

While I would initially assume that the five sets of screws are for five lines, and the top two screws are line one, and the next two are line 2, the coloring of the wires seem to imply otherwise (the coloring of top left matched coloring of top right. Coloring of bottom left matched bottom right).

What is the next step? Do I just remove the bottom two wires and try again? And then if that doesn't work put them back and try removing the top two and replace the bottom two?

Thanks! :)

The one that was not looped was probably because it's the EOL (End of line)

Each phone line consist of two wires. (Two Screws)

The four wires is for 2 phone lines.

The next step is to test it directly over there by the main box.

Test directly by the main box

You likely will need you use a phone wire that does not have a head, and just connect the 2 wires to the screws (if there are screws there)

Now - test if it is going to the other phone jacks from there.

NC + 1, Also check to see what color wiring the jacks inside the house are wired with.
