These rebates and discounts on Visa GCs are great -- really great! -- for us, but I just can't imagine how they are helpful for Visa, MetaBank or Staples.  Not complaining, just wondering and trying to understand what motivates them to push the sale of these cards at "below cost".  Maybe some fraction of them go unspent, so even if they sell at below face value, they still make money?

I would think that the only group that really cashes out these gift cards are MSers. Supposedly most other people would lose them, forget to use them, not keep track of the balance, and end up leaving over enough to make this a lucrative business. I'm not sure what the stores profit lines on these are, though.

That sounds right. Presumably stores (Staples, supermarkets) make something, maybe 5%?  There must be statistics somewhere... I just googled and found this article, coincidentally by your brother.

I cannot read the fine print on the page by page display of the upcoming ad.  I can read the category display.

I don't know why there's a question. This deal comes around every month or so, and it's always in store only. CMIIW. We should really have a wiki that we can paste into every one of these deals, as the same questions get asked and answered every time.

Obviously this deal is best for those with the Ink or Simply cash cards. Even without those cards you still make a little after paying the fee for a $200 and $100 GC. My question: if you don't have those cards, what other CCs would you use for points or rewards?

After I put in the rebate number, it says "Your eligible rebates are still being determined".  I tried with a different number and got the same thing. Anyone else with this? They also said that if I fill in the rest of the info they will notify me when it's ready.
