Using a Blackberry as Modem
« on: March 06, 2011, 01:08:17 PM »
I have a spring blackberry curve 8530, is there any way for me to connect my phone to a computer and use my phones internet connection on the computer? Meaning using it as a modem? Is this possible? Thanks.

click this link and download the program: http://www6.sprint.com/downloads/sprint_smartview/executables/SSV_Windows2.25.0046.exe
Download it to the computer you want to use it on or to a flash drive and then install it on the computer without internet access.

Once installed, open sprint smartview program, then connect BB via USB cable to computer. When program recognizes device, click the word connect. open browser and browse.

I have unlimited data...havent seen any charges...

I think i originally found this on crackberry. I can try and find the link for you guys.

It worked flawlessly on my 8330 curve. I have the tour now and havent tried it since getting it. I can try it out later and let you know.

Probably worse since you'll be loading full size pages as opposed to mobile sites.

Actually it is often quicker since a phone has to sift through the incoming data to show those items which it can, while the computer can show everything.

Don't use this too much, more than a few gig a month and Sprint can shut you down.

tether is available for mac - http://tether.com/blackberry/download

The program was recently half off at $25 and I bought it. Even though I never use it, but I see the potential if I am in an emergency situation, and it got amazing reviews.

Try reconnecting it or hitting the F5 key to refresh it. Its takes a minute to recognize it. What phone are you using?
