I think 5-year abatements are standard practice for anyone who asks for them.
How do I ask for my house

On whose Cheshbon? The only reason a township should consider it if the benefits outweigh the costs to the taxpayers AND if they would not otherwise come. None of these apply to anything in Lakewood.

On the topic of tax abatements, prime apartments is another offender. Approved on condition they don’t ask for an abatement, then they got a huge one. I wonder how much property taxes would be lower if there were no abatements given in the last 10 years???

I should have been clearer, but I meant for businesses. It's a little bone they throw to businesses so that they should come here and bring jobs.

The standard "5-years" is not really a full 5-year tax abatement. I think they pay 0 first year, 20 percent year 2, 40 percent year 3, 60 year 4, 80 year 5, and full property tax from there on.

I didn't see the Voice's resolution, so I don't know if it also follows this standard format.

Some of the things in here are simply false. Others are misleading. A very one sided article, especially considering that most of the employees are not legal.

be that as it may, if there's groups organizing over this, it would be wise for employers to be in guard and make sure they're in compliance.

The new APP reporter for Lakewood is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, judging from his articles.

They are getting cash. Cleaning ladies are doing very well considering they are not paying any taxes, SS etc. What's preventing them from getting other jobs if they want? No one is forcing them to clean.

Committee just brought up the 35-year tax breaks. Coles suggested not to move it. Tons of letters apposing it. Nobody moved it, so motion died. But they can still reintroduce it at a later time.

When there is so much attention brought to something, and the media is all over it, they usually get scared.
