Hate to say it but the entire electric scooter/bike idea should go. Since when was it ok for a 10-year-old, or even a 15-year-old old to be in charge of an electric-powered device that goes north of 15mph (and some much faster)? There's a reason why people have to get a permit and take a test before they drive a car or motorcycle (and that's an adult or older teenager). There are rules of the road and standards that are known and used by other drivers. When you have young, inexperienced people, especially when their brain isn't developed enough to properly understand risk and responsibility, it is putting EVERYBODY on the road at risk. From riding on sidewalks, going down the wrong way on the street, going too fast, not having working lights at night, speeding in a parking lot, flying through red lights and stop signs, and so many more things. These are things that probably most, if not all, of us have experienced when walking and driving around these kids on electric devices.
I do understand that there is peer pressure ('everybody' has it...) and it is a convenience for the parents. I, too, gave in to my kids during Covid (and was super happy when those devices broke!). And I do consider myself lucky that my kids now don't have that peer pressure. But we have to realize the risk and damage that we are allowing when we allow our kids to get these 'toys'. I will say that both, my son's yeshiva as well as my shul don't allow these devices on grounds and have taken a very strong stand against them. That takes away the peer pressure aspect of it for most parents.
(I won't touch on the outrageous amounts of money being wasted on them lol)
