Works great for receiving faxes and the price is unbeatable.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

With Callcentric, I don't understand. You pay for a phone number and you can receive faxes? How much if I only want a fax line? I can't figure it out. Thanks.

firstly you can get a free ny phone number or otherwise pay a couple bucks/month and the service is about 2 c/m and then you go to DID options and choose fax and it gets forwarded to your email.

The best thing about callcentric is that you get a number(s) and that number can be used for multiple things all in one. You can use it as a calling card. You can use it to forward calls to international numbers for very cheap. You can use it to set up a business type of line (the one that says "press 1 for bla bla bla, press 2 for bla bla bla...). You can use it on a mobile phone's VoIP software.

One of the features that you can set the number that you get, is, to receive faxes. They automatically email it to you or store it on their system so you can view it on their website (I think).

As someone mentioned before, you can get a free NY number and if you write that you live in a different state you won't have to pay 911 surcharges. So it will be a totally free number.

Then they have different plans you can choose from. One of their plans you can choose from is called "pay per call" which doesn't have any monthly fees and has free unlimited incoming calls (therefore I believe receiving unlimited faxes will be free).  Only outgoing calls will be charged per minute based on where you're calling (they are very cheap).

I think you have to load your account with $5 in order to change to this plan. But I think it's very worth it for all the things you can do.

one issue with callcentric: if a number sits dormant for a few months they reclaim the number

I subscribe to a free fax newsletter (I think it's the only one that's still around). That way I know I get one fax a week.

Isn't callcentric available with free NY numbers?

Based on what I've seen here, it seems a bit complicated. Are you familiar with it? Is it simple?

For me it's super simple.

But what might seem very simple to one person might not be to another. It's been a while since I set it up.

Also IINM simonics might have an option to use GV as incoming fax, but that might be more advanced than callcentric.

With CallCentric, there's seems to be a 911 recovery charge. I don't have that on my account, I don't recall how exactly I set it up, but when I log in I get a red warning that 911 is not active because I indicated that I'm using the number from outside the US/Canada. Not sure how to bypass the 911 issue with new signups. Please post here if you were able to find a way to avoid the 911 fees.

Another option is to use simonics.com with a Google Voice number. There's a one time setup fee for Simonics (search the Obi 110 Thread for a link giving a discounted set up price) and then your GV number can be set up to receive faxes and forward to email.
