Cool. What is Simonics?
Search the OBi thread or ask @TimT for a link.

Basically allows you to connect GV to/via SIP and as a side bonus also lets you use it as fax to email.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I've read the thread but still didn't know what Simonics was.

Cool! So if I set up a home phone thru Obi I can send and receive faxes at that same number?

Simonics can help you with receiving faxes on your GV number. Not sure if you would need a dedicated GV number or if it auto detects faxes. It won't help you with sending faxes which is why we bother with Faxzero and the likes.

Faxzero is excellent for outgoing faxes of up to 3 pages. For slightly longer ones use myfax.com/free

However, none of those are good for the subject of this thread which is about INCOMING fax to email.

For that, the best FREE solutions are either callcentric (free NYS phone number) or Google Voice with Simonics (small one time setup fee for Simonics).
Been using Callcentric for free (based on your recommendation) for over a year, it works great with no hiccups for me.
Faxes come as PDF email attachments.

Looking to switch from trustfax since our fax number has been unable to receive faxes for 2 weeks

Can anyone recommend a service that will do the following?
1. Let us port in our current fax number from trustfax, for incoming faxes (to be received via email).
2. Allow us to send faxes via email, from any email address @ourdomain.com

Willing to pay a monthly fee.

Thanks!

Does anyone who uses HelloFax know the answer to this question? I'm having a hard time finding out from their support team.

Can we set up our account so anyone with an email address @ourdomain.com can fax via our hellofax account? Or will all the outgoing faxes have to come from one email address?

Thanks!

Did you look at FaxPrices.com I find it an excellent starting point to compare services available. You can go from there and find what suits your needs.

I get free incoming from callcentric.com and for most of my outgoing faxes I either use FaxZero, GotFreeFax, MyFax.com/free or just send using my OKI MB472 (depending on size of outgoing fax). Since I always had free incoming faxes (first from the now defunct K7.net, that stopped providing the service, and I can't seem to get my number that I have used for years ported, and now from Callcentric), and for the occasional fax that exceeded the limits of the free services, I wouldn't pay a monthly subscription, so I used GreenFax.com. They have been gobbled up like many others by J2.com and rebranded as efax (though they did let me keep my grandfathered pay-per-use plan, but also gave me incoming numbers).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I don't see that feature listed on their website, but it gives me a couple more options.

Anyone here ever used www.fax.plus?

How does callcentric work? Do you pay for other services with them that allow you to get faxes for free in addition?

This is for an office so we want it to be easy and hassle-free, even if it costs a bit more.

Callcentric gives free NY DIDs. That DID can be configured to be answered as a fax and forwarded to any email address.

got it :)

How about an explanation in plain english? If I set up a free DID can it get faxes for free and forward to an email address? I looked on callcentric's website about porting in a number, but it doesn't show any free options.

Yes. Callcentric lets you have a DID answered as a fax line, and forward the email to you. I don't know what Callcentric's rates are for non-free DIDs and port-ins.

If you're paying, there might be other DID services that will price better. I have used Anveo.com in the past for various things (got a Canadian DID so my kids could call from camp, and had an IVR set up to reach myself, DW, or even a grandparent!) If all you're using it is for the incoming fax, all you will have to pay for is the DID.

I don't know what I've done wrong, but I get faxes thru callcentric & pay $.03 per page.
What have I done wrong?

If all you want to do is receive faxes you definitely don’t need a softphone.
