Tax on hotel in Israel?
« on: March 07, 2011, 05:00:19 PM »
If you book a spg hotel in Israel on points, or cash & points, and you have been in Israel for 5 months already, do you need to pay any sort of tax? What kind of tax is there on points or C&P?
Do you need to bring your passport to the hotel?

By then you will have exhausted your tourist visa, so yes you'd pay VAT.

I know that the tourist visa is exhaused. But do you must have a passpost when checking in? All of you guys living in Israel, how do you get away with it in Eilat or Dead sea?

I didn't pay any tax on CP Eilat, but they charged me in shekels at the hotel rate, so it came out to ~$63+3% FOREX

So you don't have to provide a passport?
The CP Eilat was pointsbreaks (no?), which is 5000 points, so where did $63 come into the picture?

I wonder if you come empty handed without a student visa or passport, if they let you get away with it?

Yes they were indeed point stays, but are there standard procedures? Because in the Starwood confirmation it does say by Israeli hotels that if you do not have a tourist visa, tax will be charged, doesnt say it only applies to cash reservations.
