Any suggestions to bypass Hotel blocking TV's HDMI access?

I booked a stay at the Westin in Maui and I'm guessing that this property blocks access to the HDMI port of their TVs.  Does anyone have a workaround for this?  I'm traveling with kids and would like the ability to hookup my tablet so they can watch movies/shows.

I've read around that unplugging the controller box sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.  Same with trying to use a universal remote control.  Any suggestions???
