I'd rather be "stuck with no internet" than "stuck with a $2,500 bill". There's always town to go to for free internet.
I agree that I dont want to be stuck with a huge bill like that.
But some people NEED internet for business purposes.
Thats why its better to set up something that you know will work (and you'll pay for) before leaving, rather that chancing it.

I've actually used www.ilwireless.com. They were excellent and when I compared prices they were also the cheapest as well. I got their new unlimited data packages which really made my life easier, as I needed to login to my surveillance camera's in NY.

Reviving an old thread :D

Anyone have any suggestions for an unlimited 3G USB data stick rental for Israel? Both links in this thread are $5.99 a day, anyone have any better suggestions?

Travelcell is no better.

I'm going for Pesach.  Have a Big Talk SIM I have used for years (Orange), and now Big Talk finally offers Data plans for Big Talk customers.  99 NIS for a month, 5GB, 149 NIS for 20gb for the month.  Got an unlocked Android phone to use, and I'll also tether that to my laptop.

Sweet arrangement, but I don't have a bigtalk sim or an android phone. Is it worth it for me to jump through all those hoops just to save a few $$$ and possibly end up with a 'solution' that doesn't work (or doesn't work properly).

If TravelCell, ILwireless or Talk-n-save are all the same, should I specifically prefer any one of them and why?

I know lots of people who use Travelcell.  It is the recommended cell provider for many of the American post-high school Yeshiva programs in Israel (my Rav's Yeshiva in Jlem uses it for their talmidim, and he rents from them in the other direction when he comes to the US).

If you don't plan regular trips to Israel (say, once a year or so) probably doesn't pay to jump through all the hoops.  If you did, the solution will work just fine.  I just bought the GSM Android phone from someone on eBay, and will set it up before I go.

Otherwise, just go with Travelcell or another provider, and all should work just fine.

That's my plan. I'm looking for the best deal and/or any pros/cons of one company over the other. Are they all HSDPA for the $5.99 package?

That's another option. Any of these places offer a bundled/discounted plan if I get both a BB and a USB modem?

I would call to negotiate something like that.

Just fyi, pelephone has way faster service than the other companies. Talkinsave uses their network.

What makes them "recommended", I know someone who paid through her nose because she got the impression that you must use a recommmended company.

Nothing really -- it's the company whose sales brochure the Yeshiva gives incoming talmidim, and both the Administration and talmidim have been pleased with service/price.

I have a relative who's a sales manager, if someone is using them I'll try to get his contact info.
