@jj1000 In our family, we have a similar game, but without all the die spinning. Here's a synopsis:
This game is played only by the adults, because it would cause too much heartache for the children. (The children each get a gift from another family member, which is purchased by that family member's parent. So I would be assigned that each of my children are buying for a different one of my nephews or nieces, and we'd buy a gift from each of my children for that person - value of $5-$10 each. The kids like opening the gifts and seeing what the "cousin" thought was best for them.)
Each adult purchases a $10 gift and wraps it. Then we make tickets numbered from 1 until the number of gifts there are (in my family, usually 15 or 20 gifts), and each adult gets one ticket. Now the picking begins.
The adult who picked #1 gets to pick first (but it's the least desirable number, as you'll see). They look at all the wrapped packages and pick one. They unwrap it right away. BUT, it's not for sure theirs...
Now, person #2 gets to pick any gift from the table and unwrap it. If they like it, they could hold on to it, but if they don't, they can swap their gift with ANY of the gifts previously chosen, and force the person they are "stealing" the gift from to take their gift. Every subsequent person gets the same rights. (Thus, the LAST number is essentially the best.)
One caveat: Once a gift switches hands twice it gets locked, and the person who is holding it keeps it without it being able to be stolen. This prevents a single very desirable gift from being stolen every round and thus taking the attention off other gifts.
