Not sure that's right at all.
That's the number that I've seen in a few places. Feel free to show otherwise.
1% by itself is a risk worth worrying about. But 1% x 1% x X% is pretty minuscule.

Not really.
Odds of having a baby on BC=1%
Odds of having a baby with microcephaly if you get Zika=1%
Odds of being bit by a mosquito with Zika= X%
so your saying that you would go to a country with zika because the chances are so low that it will affect anything?

CDC is saying that a woman should wait 2 weeks after contracting Zika before trying to conceive.

AFAIK a woman is immune for life after contracting Zika, but you would probably need to get tested to confirm that she did contract Zika.
Is that immunity 100%? I doubt anyone can guarantee that.

Ding ding ding, that's what I'm looking for.

It's not me. The CDC is saying that if you use BC for 6 months afterward that it's fine.

Could be, I just thought Zika --> Microwhatever. Perhaps not 1:1, but higher than 1:100. Maybe I'm wrong.

How might Zika cause brain damage in infants?
Experts aren’t yet certain.
The possibility that the Zika virus causes microcephaly – unusually small heads and often damaged brains – emerged in October when doctors in northern Brazil noticed a surge in babies with the condition.

Several reports now have shown that the virus can cross the placenta and attack fetal nerve cells, including some that develop into the brain.

Studies to prove whether the virus was to blame for microcephaly are expected to take until June, but evidence continues to mount. The virus is now considered “guilty until proven innocent,” one World Health Organization official said.

Normally, microcephaly occurs in about 1 in 5,000 to 1 in 10,000 of all births. Scientists analyzing outbreaks of the Zika virus in French Polynesia and northeast Brazil have estimated that the incidence rose to nearly 1 in 100 births nine months after those outbreaks peaked.

Still scary though. Wouldn't want to Gd forbid regret not taking that minuscule percentage seriously.

Duuuuude. If you're gonna come back to DDF, don't be pissy about it.

Fact remains that people on here may have seen medical studies of which I'm currently unaware that tend to show incubation period, or extent of immunity, or... something more than I currently know.

If you're not about crowd-sourced knowledge, and feel you have to phone your dermatologist every time you get a pimple, by all means. I'm just not like that.
on a matter like zika, I'd call my doctor to get info.
For something like a pimple, not.

I wouldn't base my medical decisions only on what is written online, in blogs, whatever. Or any real life decisions.

Call your doc.

Im out.

Agreed, though that doesn't mean it's not worth being informed as well.

See, that's where your assumption went off the deep end.

Knowledge is power. The more of it you have, the more empowered you are to make the right decision, to ask the right questions, and to get the right results. (News flash: the likelihood your personal general practitioner knows more about Zika than the studies that are published on the internet is asinine.)

No one is suggesting you diagnose ebola from Web MD.

Where do you think your doctor gets his info from?

not only that, what if you miss a day?
What if in spite of taking BC she becomes pregnant?

About 37 percent of births in the U.S. are the result of unintended pregnancies.

(News flash: the likelihood your personal general practitioner knows more about Zika than the studies that are published on the internet is asinine.)

Where do you think your doctor gets his info from?

Before my recent trip to Brazil we asked an OB and and regular Dr, and they both went to bring the CDC recommendations guide and almost read word by word.

Do you think any local Dr will know more then whats on the CDC website, and in this case it's not hard to understand.

I am traveling to the bahamas.  As of now there are no reports of the virus; But my wife is pregnant. Should i be concerned and cancel my trip? or should I just take necessary precautions?

(I want to know what others would do)
I looked into it as well, there is no zika in the Bahamas as of right now.  We were planning on going to the USVI this summer, but we have an infant and don't want to risk her getting any kind of virus.

I don't get it. Why is it so hard to just not visit the Central America area for .5-1 years or until news spreads that this thing is passed? There are other places to vacation, why take the risk?
