I'm not advocating venturing into Zika land, merely giving over my experience.
I can't recall a single destination I have gone to that my wife and child didn't get bitten up the first day. My son could probably get a mosquito bite in a sterile vacuum chamber.

I just came back from hot and humid Indonesia where I frolicked amongst the outdoor creatures, mosquitoes being one of them. I hung out by the pool at dusk, took walks among rice paddies, and sat outside by a performance whose TA reviews all say to bring mosquito repellent for. And having just landed back in Israel I can say that none of us have gotten a single bite from those blood sucking parasites. I have never had any repellent or method that worked this well so I figured I would share what I used .
I purchased this for my clothing which I sprayed the night before and this for my skin which I applied in the morning before heading out.

November Miami update
https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2016/s1122-zika-guidance-update.html
https://www.cdc.gov/zika/intheus/florida-maps.html

How ridiculous. It's as if the CDC has put up a fence around the red area, as if zika bugs can't go outside that area.

yes Miami will be losing a lot of money this year. I've heard lots of talk that Hawaii is the new winter break destination this year.

Yup.  After 6 straight years of the Caribbean (and loved every trip), Zika is sending us to LA this winter.  Obviously we're not the only ones thinking that way.

My wife and I are heavily considering just embracing the cold and going to northern Europe this winter. I have always wanted to check out the ice hotel. A bit paranoid? Maybe but until it reaches NYC and we have no choice but to live with it I think it's best to avoid those areas during peak mosquito season.

So sad considering last year we were chilling in the Maldives. But then again, one day my wife got bitten up there despite their promises of heavy fogging.

Are there not warm places to explore that are Zika free?
Also, cold climate winter trips can def be a lot of fun.

You mean without leaving the airport? What would be the problem?
