http://www.amimagazine.org/2017/09/18/vs-investigative-article-will-help-one-segment-frum-population-clearly-hurt-another-whats-journalist/
only has half the story
bottom line she says someone told her " you heard about rechy? " her kid was born with encephalitis etc etc
and the assumption was she got it from Miami

That doesnt sound like something I would rely on? I would want something more definitive from my doctor

At least for Miami, the number of locally transmitted cases so far in 2017 is 1. There are approximately 2.6 MILLION people living in Miami-Dade county, not to mention the number of tourists at any given time. Even if we exclude the tourists, based on YTD 2017 statistics, there is a 0.00004%. For prospective, you are about 1,500x more likely to die in your rental car in Florida than contract Zika while travelling there. (Odds of dying in a car crash in Florida are estimated at 1/8,000)

I just dont like how his doctor worded it, saying I didnt hear that it should be a problem. I would like my doctor to do more research

I wouldn't avoid it because of 1 case, but would if more pop up. The problem is they don't announce these things until weeks or months later.

I need to drive a car wherever I am, that's one of life's risks.
I don't need to vacation in SoFlo.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

You could also compare to odds of dying in a plane crash, at the airport etc. My point is that if we were to evaluate our choices based on risks that are literally less than 1 in a million, we'd all go insane.

I avoided Miami last year not because of a 1 in a million, but because by the time you find out there was an outbreak like in Wynwood I would have already been there and been exposed.

Anyone know if there is real  Zika issue in Costa Rica?
CDC says "Alert - Level 2, Practice Enhanced Precautions" but its from August.

I would like to travel to the bahamas.  The local health ministry says that there hasnt been a new case of zika in over a year. But the cdc still has it on their website. Should i be concerned?

P.s. if your answer is ask your doctor then dont even bother responding.

I dare say the travelers here are more familiar with this subject than the vast majority of doctors, who would just Google it and read back the CDC site to you.

Do you really think your doctor is closely familiar with the specific cases of Zika in certain countries any more than parroting back what the CDC says ?
