I'm not sure what alternative I have.
Did you ask your DR.?
If not pregnant many DR. will tell you to test upon return.

Sometimes you can ask a local about situation. If  it was 1 person in the last 5yrs why would u care?

Dr says they don't know more than CDC.

Why would a local know who got Zika? In many places they don't even know it's Zika and don't test for it.

I explained to Dr. that CDC is not updated, said just test upon return if feeling sick.

If it were to be a serious problem the locals would know.

What's your general game plan when planning and going to Zika places.
Case by case basis?

I would usually
1. look at local reported cases, via local news or local government sites.
2. Ask others that have been there, if possible.
3. After having all info ask doctor.

Like I said, I don't have one. I'm aware that the CDC map is worthless, but if it's a place that had Zika I've avoided it for the past few years as I couldn't justify the ramifications over traveling somewhere over somewhere else not on the list.

For the record the USA is purple on the CDC map.

That add to the lunicy of the CDC Map.

However remember there were only cases in Miami.

Yet people aren't avoiding MIA, proving that the whole thing is a sham.

In Miami there's robust information about zika.
Is that the case elsewhere? And do you trust them?
Authorities in most of the Western hemisphere besides the US/Canada are notorious corrupt.

Disclaimer: This is not a medical opinion but aren't people living in those countries and are all ok and are all having children? Why is everyone so scared of Zika?

Huh?
Most of these countries have had Microcephaly cases.

I'm curious how the risk of zika for a tourist in a "purple" area for less than a week using bug spray these days compares to general risks of travelling. Obviously if there were evidence of an active outbreak, that's one thing, but according to the CDC, there is no longer an outbreak anywhere (those would be the red areas on the map).

Is zika more of a risk than say falling while hiking a mountain in HI, or getting some other disease in Africa?

True.
At the present time its global presence encompasses half the globe, and its possible that zika like yellow fever and some other diseases will never be eradicated . At what point do you say , we take all necessary precautions and leave the rest up to the one above? (kind of like in the Daf a few days ago)

I'm not a doctor and I don't have the answers. The biggest problem with zika is the long delay from bite to Microcephaly to know what's going on in some places.
