At Which Hotel Chain Should I Build My Status?
« on: January 26, 2016, 07:42:30 PM »
I'll be having a lot of paid stays in the next few months (paid by business). I'm going to locations with hotels from all the big chains. If not the Marriott SPG merger I'd do SPG. Now my question is SPG or Hyatt?

If you think I should go with a 3rd one please let me know.
I like vanilla but my name is Venilla.

It really depends where you're going and which chain has the better hotels in that area. For e.g. why stay in a dingy Four Points when you can stay in a brand new Home2Suites or Hilton Garden Inn? I'm an SPG Plat and Hilton Diamond and I enjoy my Hilton status a little more than SPG's.

Hilton can be earned through spend.

Interesting. Most elites I know like SPG better. SPG officially gives you complimentary upgrades to suites at check in.

Granted SPG is a leading program, but OP's question is not being addressed. he was asking specifically given the SPG / Marriott merger, where the assumption is that at some point SPG plats will be combined with Marriott plats.

unless the expectation is that they will keep the loyalty programs separate? that seems unlikely.

Given the SPG uncertainty, I'd give the nod to Hyatt. Though their footprint is much smaller than SPG.

How much do you value guaranteed suite upgrades?

But on the flip side, Hyatt usually doesn't upgrade unless you use a DSU and you can't use it on straight point rooms.

That's why I stay at Omni whenever possible. Confirmed suite upgrade on award nights (and sometimes to specialty suites). I wish their footprint were bigger.

Would you explain?

- 10 SNA's.
- SNA's can be used on points reservations.
- Suite upgrades upon check in.
- More properties.
- "Your24"
- 4ppd
- easier to renew status.
- award nights count towards status.

Are you serious? What about Hilton Diamond do you enjoy, the free breakfast, because that's the only thing Hilton Diamond offers??

You don't need diamond for the breakfast; gold (which many get just for having a credit card) already offers that.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.
