You must listen again. He said he's not getting involved in that debate if u should work or learn, but on that note he was suggesting that ppl that decide to learn developed an elitist attitude to working folks, hence the school problem. Which again as everyone here noted, the problem is for learning ppl too who have no clout, which proves again that SYR was simply misinformed  at best
Don't think he said that. He said some ppl that learn have developed an elitist attitude. Not all learning ppl did and now its learning vs working

People can have various important reasons to move. Only in Lakewood you do need to "make sure your kid is in school before you move".
And as other pointed out, there is no space issue in elementary.
I hear that but that's secondary. First make sure all kids that live there get in. Before you moved you knew lkwd was crazy with school so don't go ther and say my kids didn't get in and blame them.

-1 monsey is the same . they put ads in the local papers not to move there because you wont be able to get your kids in to schools due to space constraints.
May you slide down the banister of happiness & get many splinters of success up your career.

He was definitely suggesting that it's because they are learning they developed an elitist attitude to working ppl, (why would they feel elite to other learners?), that's why he threw in chumras etc etc, and was suggesting that this is cause to school fiasco, I was just redefining why some yungerleit prefer to have mostly learners in their class/school, and that by and large it's not because of an elitist attitude

Again, missing space in Lakewood is an excuse. At least in elementary.

ETA: And no, some people are Temimim and think of Lakewood as Ir Hatorah and wouldn't imagine that getting into school would be such a nightmare.

It's clout vs no clout as many learning Ppl have a hard time. Maybe all learning Ppl get in but why make it so crazy.

Agree with u 1000%, but that's the real problem with lkwd school system for a different thread...this thread is about Rechnitz's speech and the specific problem and cause that he was suggesting

What should someone with 12kids do?  If he can't get support 15-20 years after his wedding? Live on his wife's 45k yr salary?
it is rare for someone with twelve children to be getting a child into a school where there wasn't a sibling previously. Happens when the 12th is the first boy or girl but not common.

The "problem is almost solved. Just need a few more girls high schools and for parents to be less picky.
Girls high schools are the most difficult to open. For the first year you already need like 50 teachers and to rent out the public school to make a play with one grade of girls etc etc

Someone with 7 just can easily happen.

How many people are there in Lakewood in their 50's that are still learning? What is the percentage?

it is still not common. And if their older ones are in one of the mosdos that have for both genders they are also much less likely to have problems.

Sometimes I wonder why our society is so distorted. Granted some fancy people want fancy schools teaching myriad of subjects. But why can't we also have basic schools for people who want just the basics? One teacher for Kodesh, and one for each course for math, English, science, history. Would make opening new classes/schools much easier and would make tuition much more affordable.

Can someone explain the uproar agains R syr speech to me
1: if its a problem that the schools are overstuffed $$$$ is the answer (which he is willing to give)
2: if its that people should go to newer schools that's an ego issue might not be the schools ego but nevertheless an ego problem which needs fixing (I'm .... I should get in .....)#elitist
3: if what he said is true stop putting your head in the sand and fix the problems
