Did they really not get accepted into ANY school? Or just not into the ones that they wanted.
Anywhere. Most of these families came from out of Lakewood and anyways had no clue about what school would be better than the other.
Right now a family i know has one boy and two girls at home because no one will take them.
I witness everyday how "minorities" are treated as if they don't exist.

What is the given reason?

I laugh when people say that LKWD schools don't accept people who work or aren't yeshivish. Yes there may be some schools like that but who needs them? There are schools full of parents who work and aren't yeshivish. A kollel guy would be the minority in many schools in LKWD.

Wow! What do these parents do?? How old are the kids? If that's true the situation is seriously way way out of hand and rechnitz's speech should have been exponentially more harsh.

I thought his focus on 1 specific area was off.
He exonerated school owners and blamed parents who threaten to pull their kids out of school etc. The threat of parents leaving a school isn't so much verbalized, it's more hypothetical and in the mind of the school owner.
He's worried that if he accepts person A, then he'll get a different type of crowd than he wants.

They came to Lakewood beginning of winter zman. "Too late". The father is learning and the family lived in Kiras Sefer for years.

I dunno. I have a hard time believing that they applied to every school.

Granted they shouldn't need to and should have just been accepted at one of the first few places they tried, but I just can't fathom actually applying to every single school and needing to home school because not a single one would accept them. Maybe they got tired out after 10 schools etc

There are a lot!!

The mother is working and father is stuck with kids at home. Kids are elementary age. I think the boy is on its way of being accepted, main issue is for the 2 girls.

There are a few dozens of schools, I don't know if they picked up the phonebook and called one after the other, but the way it works is that they send you to the vaad which is supposed to find where they will be accepted.

Probably want to go to a yeshivish school for learning families but doesn't have connections or pull.
It's impossible to get into some schools even for some of the most choshuv, yeshivish, full time learners, without pull.

Many of my friends are the furthest thing from minorities in Lakewood, yet they were rejected by school after school.

I'm talking about choshuva kollel guys who's parents are also benei Torah.

There is simply not enough room in the established mosdos.

On the other hand, the mosdos who have a more balabatish crowd, who want to balance it out, litteraly offer tuition deductions to these same guys if the would come to their place!

So it's pretty complicated. And not all rishus.

+100!!!

And if they lived out of town they would be more than happy to send to the Balabatishe school.

You are right. But the room/placement issue is real and minorities are the one who have the less pull/connections.

You keep repeating 'minorities'. What makes this particular family a 'minority'?

Not from Lakewood? Not Americans? Sefardim? No local family/friends? Who knows.

While I feel very bad for this family, they are hardly typical of the issue of school acceptances in LKWD.

These kids will have a hard time adjusting to America and wouldn't fit in to most schools in america easily. That doesn't mean that they don't deserve a school but they may need to be willing to compromise and send to a newer or less yeshivish place.

Agreed it's not typical, but from experience young kids usually integrate very well in a matter of months.
But that's just a current example. Many others who were Americans still went thru the same issues in the past and ended up in Deal, Baltimore etc

This story makes no sense, there is currently room in the girls elementary schools. There must be a very good reason they aren;t in school. Holding out for the "wrong" one perhaps?
(if they are HS age, then either they need to go to the new one or shouldn;t have moved here... tough to say, but unfortunately true )

Talk is nothing. He didn't mention the main issues of a) parents being too selective and b) lack of slots.
